While T6SS are typically interspecies weaponry utilized between Gram negative bacterial species, we find competition sensing allows for T6SS-dependent inhibition of the Gram positive S. aureus, providing P. aeruginosa with a competitive advantage.

Excited to share our newest preprint reporting that P. aeruginosa senses Staphylococcal secreted cytotoxic peptides through “competition sensing” and preempts competitor attack by systematically arming cells with type six secretion systems (T6SS). biorxiv.org/content/10.110…
