Do you remember the belt, cane or ruler being used for corporal punishment during your time at school?

@FrogstarWorld @JamesMelville It's remarkable how accurate those teachers were. Surprised more of them didn't carve out a career for themselves in first class cricket.

@derge12 @SwailesRuth You're right. My reply was over the top and I've apologised to Ruth for it being so. I stand by my dislike for the term though.

@Dave_Connell_11 @SwailesRuth Mansplaining how a woman should express herself when she has been the brunt of harassment, abuse, attemps to get her sacked & lies, is not a good look. If the cap fits then those individuals should wear it.

Gosh, it turns out I’m blocked by a load of edulads who think they’ve got all the answers to how we should teach in EY, despite having never taught primary age let alone EY children themselves, they clearly know how it should be done and don’t want some pesky woman who’s walked

@SwailesRuth @FayeGriffiths8 All of which is appalling and I'm sorry you've experienced that. You should absolutely rail against anyone who stoops so low. I'm sorry if my challenge was too strong, I just don't like that term.

@FayeGriffiths8 @Dave_Connell_11 I was caring for my terminally ill husband, amongst many other things) , I’d say I’m being far better than many of them deserve, all things considered.

@TyburnFleet @SwailesRuth A much better word for someone who deserves it. The behaviour Ruth describes is appalling and she has every right to fight back. I just don't like the term 'edulad'.

@dave_mcpartlin If they're going to do this, they have to tell us explicitly what to cut... Art, Maths, Geography ...? What'll be, Bridge?

@Dave_Connell_11 @PaulGarvey4 @messycrafter Problem is if it gets into rural areas. This formula really only works in cities or large towns. When you start talking £1k a year in public transport to go to a different school, there are many of us who can't afford to choose. And that's if there is a choice.

Wow. Tom Bennett having a bit of a wobble on his recent edublog, upset about "activist" research. Little bit on the emotional side. Completely get it, it's been a long half term and it's hard when people publish data that disagrees with your core beliefs...

@Dave_Connell_11 @messycrafter @PaulGarvey4 This is also true. The only thing I am finding is with Multi-Academy Trusts and the business of schooling, it is becoming harder and harder to find these somewhere else schools at secondary. I would be happy if the choice was simple.

@PaulGarvey4 @messycrafter @TomStockwell @SanchiaDavidson Your point about selection is valid, but in a system that allows for parental choice, it will happen. Parents select a school and sign up to its ethos. That school then has the right to implement said ethos, whilst retaining the responsibility to educate all of its students.

@PaulGarvey4 @messycrafter @SanchiaDavidson Wow! You've made a bit of a leap there. I don't personally agree with ZT, I was just defending it as an option. My point in this thread is that if parents don't like the approach, they can send their kids to a different school.

@Dave_Connell_11 @messycrafter @SanchiaDavidson You’re not a ‘big fan’, but you believe his and the other ZT supporters that people are ‘excusing the lack of it. ZT is responsible for Selection by Compliance in a comprehensive system. Sounds like you simply don’t want some kids in your class. Easier that way, isn’t it?

@Dave_Connell_11 @SanchiaDavidson @PaulGarvey4 It is vital but it’s achieved through positive, encouraging, firm but fair relationships with children not silly arbitrary rules that make children conform for fear of detentions/suspensions (too often) in order that inexperienced, weak teachers can manage behaviour.

@SanchiaDavidson @PaulGarvey4 He is responsible for increased anxiety in children of all ages who are taught in schools that advocate his ideology of how to maintain discipline in the classroom. He and Birbelsingh are doing untold damage to young people claiming to improve results.

@messycrafter @TomStockwell @SanchiaDavidson @PaulGarvey4 Every parent who sends their kids to Michaela know what the school is. There are other options. Consistently the highest progress 8 scores in the country. For me, there's more to education than progress 8, but they do what they do and they do it brilliantly.

@TomStockwell @SanchiaDavidson @PaulGarvey4 My view is based on research of Tom Bennet’s policies sadly taken up by several academies. It is also based on listening to several of Birbelsingh’s interviews. The most extraordinary one with LBC. But you focus on your one visit to Michaela. You are clearly infatuated.

@Ofstednews 'Exceptional' will be the top grade in Ofsted's new five-point system. But Oliver says: 'Exceptional is not the new outstanding...it's different. You cannot map Exceptional to Outstanding. You can't map Strong to Good. You can't map Expected Standard to Requires Improvement'

@BobbuAlgae01 @DrNShastriHurst I don't think it will make any money, but that's actually irrelevant to me. Taxing education, however privileged, is despicable; it is an uncivilised act. I won't convince you and you won't convince me, so I will wish you well and see you at the ballot box in 4 years time.

Since Labour announced VAT on school fees: 📚81 independent schools have closed 🚸Nearly 25,000 children have left the sector 📖Lower cost, small schools - not elite institutions - are paying the price This isn’t tackling inequality. It’s damaging opportunity. A policy driven by performative politics, not principle. And children are the ones losing out. thetimes.com/article/ce2bbc…
