Today on Peace Officers Memorial Day, we honor the brave men and women in law enforcement who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. Their courage, service, and devotion to protecting our communities will never be forgotten. We continue to pray for their families, their fellow officers, and all who wear the badge. May God bless our fallen heroes and the men and women in blue who continue to serve.

While the Battle of San Jacinto was a great victory, the Treaty of Velasco enshrined Texas’ freedom. On this day in 1836, the defeated Santa Anna agreed to withdraw his troops below the Rio Grande and recognize the independence of the Republic of Texas. The courage and sacrifice of the Texans who fought for liberty secured the future of the Lone Star State. God bless Texas.

.@mayes_middleton has the experience and proven record to be a great Texas Attorney General, which is why Tonya and I have endorsed Mayes. During my time in the Texas Legislature, I have seen Senator Mayes Middleton fight aggressively for President Trump’s border security agenda and for the conservative values Texans expect us to defend. Mayes is the only true MAGA candidate in this important TX AG race. Meanwhile, his opponent has a history of obstructing the President’s agenda for political leverage. Now, with new information surfacing about conduct inside AG @KenPaxtonTX’s office, I believe it to be even more important than ever before to get Mayes Middleton elected as the next Texas Attorney General!

For months, I have heard directly from SD 22 landowners who feel steamrolled by the public comment process for the Texas 765-kV Strategic Expansion Plan (STEP). They are deeply concerned about the impact this massive transmission project could have on their property rights and land values. That’s why I joined my colleagues in urging the PUC to take a more deliberate approach. Texas can strengthen the grid while protecting consumers, property owners, and rural communities.

Congratulations to Baylor student researchers Kiera Griffin, Dhivya Rajamanickam, and Riley Rees on earning top honors from the Texas Academy of Science. Their success is another example of Baylor University’s continued growth as a leading Research 1 institution, producing groundbreaking research and preparing the next generation of scientists and innovators right here in Central Texas.

Proud to join the ribbon cutting for @BASFCorporation’s new Lake Creek Ranch facility in Riesel, Texas, a major investment in the future of McLennan County. This project strengthens BASF’s operations through smarter water management, while also helping expand access to safe drinking water through its partnership with the City of Riesel. Partnerships like this strengthen our region, support long-term growth, which requires an adequate water supply, and deliver real benefits for Texas communities.

Thank goodness for public officials who understand that accountability is never optional. A federal magistrate judge just rejected efforts by Lorena ISD and Principal April Jewell to quash a subpoena tied to the horrific abuse committed by a former teacher. In earlier civil proceedings, the court found that Jewell’s “lack of executive action” in response to warnings “shocks the conscience.” When leadership at schools fails at the top and then tries to keep records from coming to light, it raises serious concerns about transparency, accountability, and the safety of our children. kwtx.com/2026/05/01/jud…
