Today, it was an honor to attend my friend Senator Brian Birdwell’s swearing-in as Assistant Secretary of Defense in Washington, D.C. Sen. Birdwell’s life has always been defined by service—from serving our nation in uniform, to surviving the Pentagon attack on 9/11, to faithfully representing the people of SD 22 in the Texas Senate. It was an honor to see his remarkable journey come full circle as he returns to the @DeptofWar. Congratulations to Senator Birdwell, Mel, and the Birdwell family. Today, we remember the Law Enforcement Officers who made the Ultimate Sacrifice in the line of duty. On this 10th anniversary of the horrific Dallas ambush, we especially honor the four @police_dallas Officers and @dartmedia Officer who made the ultimate sacrifice protecting others. Their courage will never be forgotten, and neither will the families who continue to bear that loss. May God Bless those who protect our communities and those who gave everything to keep Texans safe. #FallenLawEnforcementOfficerDay

On Independence Day, we celebrate the freedoms endowed by God and defended by America’s Servicemembers. To honor their sacrifice, I will refile my legislation, HB 4321, to EXPAND VETERAN HOMESTEAD EXEMPTION to a tiered system based on disability rating.  I plan to incorporate changes to the bill in order to improve it, compliments of Ret. US Army Master  Sergeant @jjbrookshire. Thank You Sir and you’re absolutely right, a $12K maximum exemption is simply not good enough for our Veterans! Our laws reflect what we value, and in Texas, we value our Veterans. Those who sacrificed for our country deserve a Homestead Exemption that best reflects the extent of their sacrifice. #txlege

Common sense wins! In 2023, Texas led the nation by passing SB 15, requiring students at public institutions of higher education to compete in intercollegiate athletics based on their biological sex. I was a proud cosponsor of this legislation authored by our next Texas Attorney General @mayes_middleton!
