Earthset. The Artemis II crew captured this view of an Earthset on April 6, 2026, as they flew around the Moon. The image is reminiscent of the iconic Earthrise image taken by astronaut Bill Anders 58 years earlier as the Apollo 8 crew flew around the Moon.

Planet of the Apes is 58 years old today. This scene terrified me as a kid. Apes on horseback hunting humans for sport flips the natural order, and your brain short-circuits trying to process it. One of cinema’s all-time “holy crap” moments.

On the eve of Artemis II, despite the fact that we've tread this path before, it's worth remembering that a safe return is not a given. It's the product of millions of person-hours behind these vehicles and the crew flying them. We can never ensure success, but we can deserve it.
