As Trump enters a dangerous phase of his presidency, it has become clear that his mind is in a very troubled state. Trump is obsessed. He cannot get enough of himself. Trump's spectacles have become normalized.  He is not confronted directly on it. My essay for  @CanberraTimes.

Tonight, entire families were wiped out in Israel’s bombardment of Mashghara in the Bekaa. Among the dead: Samir Rizk. Hamza Rizk & his two children. Hassan Mansour, his wife, & their two daughters. Killed inside their homes, late at night, as Israeli warplanes unleashed wave after wave of heavy strikes on the town. The footage from the scene is hellish. Homes burning. Entire buildings torn open. Families buried beneath the rubble in their sleep.

Israel killed 9 paramedics in roughly 72 hours. Let that sink in. These are some of their faces. According to Lebanon’s latest health sector figures, now updated after the killing of additional paramedics in the last 48 hours: • 125 healthcare workers killed • 273 wounded • 149 attacks on the healthcare sector • 142 ambulances targeted • 32 medical centres destroyed • 16 hospitals forced out of service • 221 ambulance crews attacked Lebanon’s emergency sector is not collapsing accidentally. It is being systematically dismantled. Israel is committing war crimes against Lebanon’s medical services.

An Iranian source told me the heavy gunfire heard near Bandar Abbas erupted after the IRGC targeted a vessel at sea, followed by U.S. fighter jets striking IRGC naval boats in the Gulf. According to the source, several IRGC Navy personnel were killed in the attack. “The situation is still unfolding,” the source said.

Less than 24 hours after optimism emerged around a possible Iran-US memorandum, negative vibes are already surfacing. A well-informed Iranian source tells me there are signs of U.S. retreat on two central issues: the mechanism for unfreezing Iranian assets, and the scope of a ceasefire in Lebanon. According to the source, the memorandum includes a Lebanon ceasefire framework, but Israel is reportedly uncomfortable with the arrangement and is pushing Washington to include language allowing it to carry out military operations in Lebanon under the justification of responding to “any threat.” Iran is rejecting that formulation and insisting on a sustainable and lasting ceasefire. Tehran has informed all mediators, including Pakistan, that it will not sign the memorandum unless all clauses are fully agreed and guaranteed. Pakistan reportedly suggested moving forward with agreed sections while postponing contentious points, but Iran rejected that approach, insisting the disputed clauses are fundamental and non-negotiable. The overall picture suggests Tehran increasingly views Washington as backing away from earlier understandings reached through mediators.

According to my sources, the draft proposal that’s supposed to be finalised include: -End of war on all fronts including Lebanon -Freeing several billion dollars of Iran's blocked funds -Lifting the U.S. naval blockade and opening the strait of Hormuz -Withdrawal of American forces from the immediate vicinity of Iran After this, the parties will have 30 days to agree on the nuclear issue. These 30 days can be extended by mutual agreement. During these thirty days, passage will be facilitated through the strait. According to Iran, management of the Strait of Hormuz will be an Iranian-Omani issue, and is being negotiated with Muscat.

Twenty-fourth hour diplomacy. Pakistan’s PM heads to China. His army chief is in Tehran. Qatar is back to shuttle diplomacy. Regional capitals are moving in every direction at once, searching for a formula that still does not exist. To my knowledge, the situation has become so complicated that a VERY high-profile regional figure quietly visited Tehran in an attempt to bridge what many now describe as “unbridgeable gaps.” The unknown is when the breaking point comes. The known is that it’s coming.

BIG SCOOP: US-Israel goal was to install former President Ahmadinejad as Iran's leader (aka Delcy) An Israeli strike designed to free him from house arrest was part of an effort to bring about regime change and put him in power. w/ @MarkMazzettiNYT @julianbarnes @ronenbergman nytimes.com/2026/05/19/us/…

Admiral Brad Cooper says the investigation into the U.S. airstrikes on Minab school is "complex". I'd like to remind you: Triple tap U.S Tomahawk cruise missiles were fired on a busy school day. Many children were still alive after the first strike. As some tried to flee to another part of the school, they were targeted again - this time with teachers and parents too. What's 'complicated' about such intentional evil. Not once but THREE missiles.

The US-Israeli plan for regime change in Iran at the start of this war was apparently to replace Khamenei with… Mahmoud Ahmadinejad! The most insane-sounding story you will read today: nytimes.com/2026/05/19/us/…

‼️ Tonight, Israel slaughtered an entire family. Ten members of the Deebo family were killed inside their home in Deir Qanoun al-Nahr in south Lebanon. Women, children & grandparents. Not “Hezbollah targets.” Human beings. Among them: Maria Deebo. Maleeka Deebo. Little Mohammed Baqer Deebo. Their mother Zahraa Najdi. Their father Alaa Deebo. Alongside their grandparents and uncle. Entire generations wiped out in a single strike, killed late at night inside their own home. Ten people were massacred in Deir Qanoun al-Nahr tonight, among them three women & three children. This was never a ceasefire. It was permission for Israel to keep killing civilians, bombing homes at will, and acting with total impunity.
