At that speed it would only take 10 seconds, not minutes.

@DavidHasThem @Sunflower8649 @OwenBenjamin You're misreading that. In the 10 minutes from 7:53 to 8:03 the capsule slowed from 25,000 mph to 350 mph due to atmospheric braking, then deployed the chutes.
