@HemmenKees You have to wonder what's behind the drop at City. It seems too steep and sudden to be entirely due to injuries and ageing players. Maybe the FFP process is going against the club and the players are hearing about it.

@HemmenKees What a change now fortune, though. As of now, United and City have the same goal difference.

@HemmenKees Zirkzee's pass today to set up the third goal. United play better when he's on the pitch.

@Noahpinion Regressive identify politics, on the other hand, especially grievance, seems to have worked very well.

Progressive identity politics -- appealing to groups of voters based on racial threat or grievance, and targeting them with specific benefits -- is just totally cooked. It's not winning over Hispanics and Asians; it's pushing them away. Put a fork in it. noahpinion.blog/p/identity-pol…

@DeanBaker13 I doubt 3 months is enough time for incomes to rise / prices to fall to restore affordability, especially given the economic growth despite higher rates.

Agree, also the serious policy argument on inflation is whether 2 percentage points less over last four years would have made any difference in people's perceptions and voting (mostly not in food and gas, btw). Color me skeptical
Arin Dube@arindube

@LarryMishel If in 3 months voters think the economy is doing amazingly it's going to make the within-Dem conversation more complicated

@The_Monarchist @dgardner If I may interject, it's deluded to make the comparison in the original tweet of this thread. Check out the US Bureau of Labour statistics on labour productivity by state. Also check out life expectancy by state in the Nat'l Vital Statistics Reports.

@irespectonline The fact that people on the right have juxtaposed democracy and a republic in order to erode democratic norms when a republic is simply one type of democracy is unconscionable.

I’m listening to Republican strategist Sarah Longwell on NPR talking about public opinion of Trump’s tyrannical posture and she just said: “When I ask voters in focus groups if they think Donald Trump is an authoritarian, the #1 response by far is, ‘what’s an authoritarian?’”

@benbawan @Rory_Johnston I'm not an oil expert by any means, but some of the reliance on the US is due to the types of crude their refineries can process. Most of the oil sands crude is heavy; not all refineries can be processed. For that reason, most pipeline capacity is pointed south.

@Rory_Johnston Just wondering cause Europe has got quite of refinery capacity and would probably gladly welcome Canadian crude - or indeed refined products from Canada. Seems economically logical but geopolitically risky to depend on the US market so totally.

Thinking through what a 20% universal US tariff would mean for oil markets in the unlikely scenario in which the tariffs happen and oil flows aren't excluded. Tariff incidence will be split between 3 places: 1. US refining margins 2. US pump prices 3. Exporter (i.e., oil source)

@BGPhysio We can't reverse sarcopenia but can improve muscle mass, strength, power, and balance. We can improve our VO2 max to a point... but there's a lot of nuance there. It's certainly better to bring a higher VO2 max with you into your later decades.

It's actually an interesting legal question. If I offer a $1 million prize that you can only win if you're a registered swing-state voter, am I offering people a financial incentive to register to vote (which is illegal in the U.S.)?
Marshall Cohen@MarshallCohen

JUST IN: The Justice Department has sent a letter to Elon Musk's super PAC, warning that his daily $1m giveaway to registered voters in swing states might violate federal laws, sources tell CNN. It's illegal to incentivize registration with cash/prizes. @evanperez @HBRabinowitz

@HemmenKees Zirkee had a better first touch, too. Højlund is too much like Lukaku in that regard. 🫤

@HemmenKees You're right about that. Højlund took a while to get started at Utd, too (before Garnacho would cross the ball to him). But Zirkzee seems to have a better field sense; he's better at knowing where the ball will be. Højlund often shows up late.

Anyone with any sound analytical framework can easily infer what an absolutely abysmal r/r equities offer right now. The fact that the US got pillaged (federal deficit = private surplus) to juice those last % of nominal returns changes nothing to these facts.
