Lifelong Californian here. 🙋‍♂️ Yes. Thats what exactly most responsible stakeholders in this state want. Very little infrastructure was even built anyways. Maybe we try again if/when real adults are in charge? But since that’s unlikely, time to cut our losses as this isn’t just simple mismanagement, but outright fraud.

i genuinely don’t understand what these people think we should do. like yeah the project has been mismanaged to hell and blown way past it’s budget, but now what? just leave all of the infrastructure that we have built and blown all the money on to just sit there and rot?

An effective urban church preaches truth with clarity, and also with compassion. Large cities are full of competing ideologies, moral confusion, and spiritual experimentation. The worst thing a church can do is become uncertain about truth and ambiguous with the gospel.

An effective urban church refuses the temptation to retreat from the brokenness of the city. It embraces the people, the pace, and the problems as its mission field.

The early church didn’t just gather inside buildings, they lived among the people. Acts 2:47, “Praising God, and having favour with all the people.” When the church engages the neighborhood, the neighborhood begins to trust the church.

The gospel is not afraid of density. Jesus didn’t avoid crowds; He moved toward them. Luke 19:41, “And when he was come near, he beheld the city, and wept over it.” An effective church must see the city, feel the city, and carry the burden of the city.

Cities are full of contradiction. Wealth and poverty, brilliance and brokenness, opportunity and despair. The church must love the city enough to stay present in its complexity.
