First big project i've been been cooking up at @a16z... excited to share: a16z Build A dinner series and community for founders, technologists, and operators figuring out what they want to build next — and who they want to build it with. Great startups don’t come from ideas alone. There are certain conditions under which an ambitious, talented person is more likely to start a company, and have a higher chance of going on to be successful. Some of it is serendipity... the right people in the right room, having the right conversation, at the right time. But it’s not just chance. Startups emerge where the conditions make them more likely - in spaces where ambitious, talented people collide, swap ideas, and push each other to do more. Build exists to make those conditions far more likely. It’s the front door to a16z for experienced talent between chapters, taking the time to think seriously about what’s next. It’s not an accelerator, or even a structured program. There’s no curriculum, no demo day, no prescribed outcome. Instead, we focus on one thing: creating small, repeatable environments where people with ambition, ability, and similar timing spend enough time together that trust compounds, decisions get easier. New a16z Fellowship drop! 🚨 👉 a16z Growth/GTM Engineer Fellowship The roles of a growth marketer, PM, and engineer are all collapsing into one. For many startups, this is becoming their most important hire - a first principles thinker who is AI-native, curious, and willing to do whatever it takes to win leads and multiply revenue. But when the frontier of a field is moving as fast as this one, it's hard to keep up. There's no curriculum, no playbooks for what works/doesn't... the rate limiter on acceleration becomes how quickly practitioners at the bleeding edge can share information - exchange notes on what worked/didn't in a high trust environment. Insanely stoked about the @a16z growth engineer fellowship. There are multiple times in my career where I made months of progress due to a single conversation with an expert who was 1 step ahead of me. These growth experts helped me see around the corners of my own particular problem situation. I always left those conversations craving more. Why can’t I learn even faster? The problem with “growth” events though, is adverse selection: growth is easy to superficially talk about, and everyone wants to claim that they “drove revenue from $Xm to $XYZm”. What’s much harder is actually developing the first-principles understanding needed to solve growth problems from scratch. We’re building a small group of people who know that curiosity, openness and ruthless, scrappy, experimentation is the only way forward in a world where all the channels are saturated, and AI developments change the ways companies grow every 6 months. We’re looking for the best growth thinkers and doers—people who have made numbers inflect up-and-to-the-right at some of the world’s best technology companies—and who've also got the scars from 100s of failed experiments run along the way. It’s the group I wish I was part of when I started my career in growth. And I’m honoured to get to work with legends like @andrewchen / @kirbyman01 / Ajay Prakash / Marty Imber / @gauravvohra and Nazli Tan — truly world class practitioners who I’ve looked up to for a long time.
