I’ll try to address this without further inflaming things. It’s a wonderful sentiment. It’s also not the time or place for it at all, as many have noted. I accept some people won’t understand that. Especially in a playoff game, there’s a limited time with the coach, so questions ideally are short and relevant to what you’re writing. Every second at the podium is a second you’re not in open locker room, where players will leave quickly (and understandably) as their season has just painfully ended. We are human. We have empathy for people on tough days. I’ll often preface a question quickly by saying “I know things didn’t go as you’d hoped today,” something short that shows that. I say these things not out of self-importance. You try to do your job as needed without keeping others from doing theirs. This didn’t do that. That was the problem for most journalists.
