As I said on @TimesRadio just now, you can draw a distinction between business-critical meetings with the regime/its embassy (for example to raise the plight of British nationals detailed in Iran) on the one hand and attendance at these sorts of “representational” events on the other - where attendance is primarily symbolic. (National Days are furthermore the most important of the regular representational events).
There was no need for the Foreign Office/ministers to permit attendance at the latter given the regime’s butchery of thousands of its own people and its long-standing hostility to the UK

As a business customer with a legit business, I could not care less what regulation Wise needs to adhere to that restricts my business transfers. But it sounds bearish for Wise’s business model if local banks need far less red tape (and less pissing odd customers) vs Wise!

The most ironic thing in all of this is Wise tells me they cannot tell me anything about why they restrict my account (and what I would need to do to resolve it)… because they are not a bank.
This itself is a strong reason to use local banks over Wise… which I am now

Our pilot of new incentives to remove failed asylum seeking families will save taxpayers up to £20 million. Here's why 👇 1. It costs 158k to put up a family of 3 in an asylum hotel for 1 year. It costs 48k more to forcibly remove someone. A 10k per person incentive, up to a max of 40k per family, will save money. 2. If someone refuses an incentive, we will move to a forced removal. If you have no right to be in this country, you should not be allowed to stay. 3. There is nothing new about incentive payments. The Tories did it. Even Reform say they will do it. 4. Higher incentives have worked in Denmark. 95% of returns there are voluntary. 5. These incentives are not a pull factor. Asylum claims in Denmark are at a 40-year low. And asylum seekers spend tens of thousands of pounds getting to this country, that's more than any incentive payment. 6. This is a pilot of 150 families. We will see if it works and scale it if it does. That's taking a smart approach, that saves taxpayers' money, to restoring order at our borders. I make no apology for doing that.

The two most militarily capable US allies are Ukraine and Israel. Weird to have a political system where one of the two parties despises the first - and the other is deciding it hates and resents the second. America needs and benefits from both those friendships!

UK electricity generation has fallen 25% from its peak in 2004. Per capita electricity consumption is a third the level of the United States. The UK has the most costly electricity in the world. Half the gas we consume comes from the Norwegian side of the North Sea basin. The residual imported LNG has 4x the carbon footprint of supplying our own. And most depressingly of all the result is a deteriorating UK Balance of Payments, a weaker pound, and a bigger hit to the cost of living. And still the useful idiots want to further constrain UK energy production through high taxes, banning new licences, and gold-plating new energy infrastructure. Their luxury beliefs are behind the awful household disposable income growth of recent years. 🤡.
