🚨 The Volatility Trap in DePIN Revenue Sharing A lot of networks say they are generating “real-world revenue,” but the operators providing the actual infrastructure are still being paid in highly volatile project tokens. This creates a hidden disconnect. Imagine a DePIN network generates $500 in actual infrastructure revenue, and instead of distributing that value in STABLE ASSETS - ($USDC) or predictable payouts, contributors receive the project token. Now imagine the token drops 40% before the operator cashes out. - The infrastructure produced real value. - The network earned real revenue. - But the contributor absorbed the market volatility. This means the rewards are no longer tied to infrastructure performance alone, they’re tied to token speculation and market timing. That’s not true infrastructure economics. It becomes even more problematic for operators running real-world hardware: • Paying electricity bills • Maintaining equipment • Leasing locations • Covering internet costs • Reinvesting into expansion You can’t build reliable physical infrastructure on unpredictable cash flow. This is where many DePIN models still resemble token incentive systems more than sustainable infrastructure businesses. The next evolution of DePIN will come from projects that separate: 🥇Infrastructure revenue 🥈Token speculation The strongest networks long term may be the ones where: • Revenue is distributed in stable assets • Operators can predict ROI • Tokens serve governance/network utility roles • Infrastructure economics remain sustainable regardless of token volatility
