Today is Autism Awareness Day. Mount Sinai researchers are advancing our understanding of autism. A new study from the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, published in Nature Medicine, finds that autism risk genes are largely shared across people of different ancestries—supporting a universal genetic architecture of the condition. Drawing on one of the largest genomic analyses to date, this new research underscores the importance of expanding genetic studies beyond predominantly European cohorts. The findings may help improve the accuracy of genetic diagnosis and inform more precise approaches to care for individuals with autism. Read more: mshs.co/3NVTg8r
