The Trump Administration is waging war on universities by suspending their funds. N.I.H. grants to universities are down by more than 90 per cent in the current fiscal year; so far in 2026, the National Cancer Institute hasn’t made a single grant. newyorkermag.visitlink.me/oxA7Ey

How does the brain build a memory? A common assumption is that the neurons activated during an experience collectively form the memory engram. In our new Nature Neuroscience paper (finally out!), we show that this is not the case. nature.com/articles/s4159…

Congress rejected massive cuts to US science budgets for 2026, but much of the money still isn’t flowing to researchers. The culprit? The White House Office of Management and Budget (OMB) is quietly slow-walking the release of funds. 🧵👇 For @Nature: nature.com/articles/d4158…

🧠🧬 @McLeanHospital, @harvardmed, and @broadinstitute scientists are advancing human‑relevant psychiatric genomics by building tools that reflect ancestral diversity, something that fundamentally can't be captured using other species. Instead of relying on the same narrow datasets, @JajooAarti and collaborators used data from the PsychENCODE Consortium and @PsychiatricGen1 to improve genetically regulated expression models and how they're used in transcriptome-wide association studies. This approach allowed them to pull out signals that would’ve been missed otherwise, and revealed new genes that may be involved in the risk of developing bipolar disorder, major depressive disorder, posttraumatic stress disorder, and schizophrenia. As corresponding author @NikosDaskalakis put it, "Genetic diversity is a key to unlock the mysteries of the brain." ✨ Read the study in @NatureComms: nature.com/articles/s4146… 👥 also @athinara23, @artemis_iat, @thebigdeli, @mikejg84 🏢 also @sunydownstate, @dgsomucla, @LieberInstitute, @JHU_PBS at @HopkinsMedicine, @PennMedicine, @CHOP_Research This work was supported by @NIMHgov.
