@robkhenderson As far as I can tell, making drugs illegal and declaring war on them has only served to make drug abuse more rampant and governments more powerful. Perhaps a different approach is in order.

I get the libertarian impulse of letting people abuse drugs and accept the consequences. Unfortunately the rest of us, children included, must also absorb the consequences: robkhenderson.com/p/you-cant-be-…
Ludicrous - 漱石@ludicrousdefect

@robkhenderson I have a very libertarian stance on drug prescriptions because I believe anyone should be allowed to pretty much consume any kind of drug and accept the consequences of their actions. But time and time again, I see stats about insane women's prescriptions. This worries me.

@ZubyMusic People don’t comprehend just how much of their money ends up in government hands. Literally everything is taxed to hell and back. Half the work you do is to keep the bureaucracy running. And it’s for nothing good.

It's crazy how people think giving 30-60% of all the money they earn to the government is acceptable.

@zundamotisuki Yeah we get this in the UK too. They think they’re doing something but really they’re being paid to annoy people so that people ask the state to crackdown. They basically agitate for more tyranny in the end. Useful idiots.

@hol40900 @RupertLowe10 Yes, whatever the state does is usually terrible. Which is why instead of bringing back state death penalty, laws against weapon ownership and self-defense should be abolished. That way men such as this will run the risk of being killed by their victims or victim’s family.

@RupertLowe10 UK abolished it 60 years ago. Data from the US shows no deterrent effect and 4% of death row inmates are innocent. Lowe wants to bring back execution? Fine. But don't pretend it's justice it's revenge with a 1-in-25 chance of killing the wrong person.

I read how a failed Pakistani 'asylum seeker' who repeatedly abused and raped an eight year old girl has been jailed for 15 years. He abused her in her own home and bedroom. She was told that if she told anyone, she would die. I wouldn't deport him. Under a Restore Britain Government, with the British people's approval, the death penalty would be reintroduced for such evil and undeniable crimes. He would be put to death. If you rape a young child, you do not deserve to live. It's that simple.

@Swing056 @PBDsPodcast Libertarianism, regardless of the delusions of some libertarians, is the ONLY worldview that is congruent wit reality. But whether you think that or not, it’s not an argument. He provided no arguments against Dave’s position.

@PBDsPodcast Dave is a “good debater” because he does it a lot and uses the same thin sheets of paper retorts in every argument. But Adam is actually right in that Dave’s ideology is incongruent with reality because, outside of the economics, libertarianism and reality don’t match.

For 80 years, the political landscape of the developed world has been defined by WW2. Modern postwar liberalism became a sort of dark inverted religion, a religion not built around a god, but a devil. I call this religion "inverse fascism". Inverse fascism has no plans, no vision, and no systematic understanding of the world. It just asks itself "What would Hitler do?", then does the opposite, and congratulates itself for being righteous. Not only that, inverse fascism doesn't even understand who the fascists were, and what exactly they believed. It only sees the Axis powers as Saturday morning cartoon villains, comically evil antagonists in a half-hour show for kids. That's no way to run a world. You can't let infinity third world immigrants into developed countries just because Hitler wouldn't. You can't hug and forgive violent criminals over and over again as they hurt innocent people, just because Hitler wouldn't. You can't allow addicts and derelicts to camp on the streets of your cities, shooting up heroin, just because Hitler wouldn't. You can't pressure all your female population into in the workforce and career-building in their early 20s, discouraging them from having babies, just because Hitler wouldn't. You can't dismantle your unique culture, and destroy the racial composition of your society, just because Hitler wouldn't. To do everything you do just because Hitler wouldn't is to allow Hitler, or your notion of Hitler, to define you. Today, I saw a Japanese person making a joke about the atomic bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. A few days ago, I heard the President of the United States make a joke about the attack on Pearl Harbor. Perhaps in the days to come, we can hope to hear a Chinese man make a joke about Unit 731. To hear a German make a joke about the firebombing of Dresden. To hear an Israeli make a joke about the holocaust. Perhaps the world is starting to heal. Perhaps we are no longer allowing our worst moments to define us. Perhaps we don't need to scold ourselves about the wars of our ancestors. Or to blind ourselves to our virtues out of fear of repeating their sins. Perhaps we can create a new political ideology, based not on asking what Hitler would not do, but on asking what helps us colonize the stars.

Hmm. This was dispiriting. I had a haircut from a young woman, and after she established that I write for a newspaper, she gushed: "That's so interesting! I've never actually read a newspaper."

The terrible fire in Glasgow was around a shop selling vapes illegally. The government should be banning vapes instead of an unenforceable tobacco ban. These vapes are the real problem and its where Labour should be focussing its energy. thescottishsun.co.uk/news/16022699/…

Activist: "British farmers should transition to plant-based crops." Farmer: "Two thirds of Britain's agricultural land cannot grow crops." Activist: "With investment..." Farmer: "The investment required to terrace, drain, and cultivate upland Britain would cost more than the food it produced would ever be worth." Activist: "It could be done." Farmer: "Economically, ecologically, and practically, it cannot. The hill farmers have tried for three thousand years to push the line upward. The line is where it is." Activist: "Technology changes things." Farmer: "Technology cannot change the angle of a fell or the depth of the topsoil." Activist: "Other countries manage hillside farming." Farmer: "With enormous subsidy, at great environmental cost, and still not competitively." Activist: "What's your alternative." Farmer: "Sheep and cattle on the hills. Arable on the valleys. The same system that's fed Britain since before the Romans." Activist: "That sounds old-fashioned." Farmer: "It works. That's why it's old."

In 2002, a 19-year-old British garbage man won nearly £10 million on the lottery. He spent it all on drugs, gambling, and prostitutes and 8 years later he was back working as a garbage man.
