Hooters was already family friendly. My dad would take me there after my games every week!

@chrismwojcik #2 I struggle with. Finding the balance between strength training/jiu jitsu and the right kind of weight training
English

If I were disappointed in my Jiu-Jitsu progression, I'd do these 5 things right away:
That picture below is me, last summer, when I was really disappointed with my progress on the mat.
I was training really hard, but all I was getting was injured all the time and burned out of the sport.
But when I made some simple changes, I started to see results and had some of my best competitive performances in a long time.
Here's what you need to do:
-----------
1. Get a coach to watch you roll and dissect your strengths and weaknesses.
If you just go to class and train, you'll get a little bit better.
But if you have a coach working with you, analyzing your game, and even just telling you what you're doing wrong, you will excel.
You need a jumping-off point so you can figure out what to work on, how to work on it, and how to test that you're making progress.
-----------
2. Get serious about your fitness.
I will never be a health freak. It is not in my DNA. I just can't care about seed oils or microplastics that much.
If I die, I die.
However, if you want to be a good athlete, your health and fitness matter:
• Strength train
• Do cardio
• Eat well
• Recover properly
-----------
3. Screw your head on straight.
I used to think that Jiu-Jitsu just attracted neurotic people.
However, the more I think about it, the more I think that the reason we get so stressed about competing is that doing combat sports is just stressful. I think we're a neurotic bunch because we're doing a crazy thing.
You need to train your mind with the same discipline that you train your body.
-----------
4. Surround yourself with motivated people who support each other.
In addition to good coaching and good training, the next most important thing to do is to put yourself in an environment that supports you in pursuing your goals.
It's not just about finding people who work hard; it's about finding supportive, hard-working training partners and friends.
The best way to do this is to be that yourself.
-----------
5. Be patient and consistent.
If you do everything right, progress will still take a really long time. If you do everything wrong, it probably will feel eternal.
Don't expect a week of good training, receiving good coaching, and being disciplined to fix your mat progress in a week or 2.
Give progress time to reach you and make it easy by being undeniably consistent.
-----------
When I committed to training more effectively for 6 months, I made more progress than I had in the previous 2 years.
I started to like Jiu-Jitsu more, I started to get excited again, and I also stopped getting injured so much (knock on wood!).
Now, I'm building a program to make my learnings and improvements more accessible to you.
More info coming soon :)
