Think about it logically. I’ll try to use an analogy you can understand. Imagine most drummers are broke, and Guitar Center needs to make a profit and has 100 sets of drums to sell for $2000 each. They could sell the one drummer on the planet who isn’t broke one set of drums for $2000 and the other 99 sets gather dust. Or they could LOWER THE PRICE and sell 100 drummers 100 sets of drums for $500 (including the one guy who isn’t broke). In scenario A, GC gets $2000. In scenario B, they get $50,000. Now, let’s say they spent $40,000 acquiring and selling those drums. In scenario A, they are $38,000 in debt. In scenario B, they are $10,000 in profit. Did they make $200k on drums? No, and they never would even if they kept the price at $2,000 because there aren’t 100 people willing or able to pay - there’s no market at that price (basic supply and demand). Also, scenario A is unlikely because the one drummer who isn’t broke will go buy his drums in Texas for $500. So in Scenario A, under Laffer Curve principles, GC is out of business, and all the drummers are moving to Texas - including the one who isn’t broke. Much like what is happening in CA raising taxes.
