There are zero foreign nationals in China's govt. In fact they're not even permitted to "vote" in the strictly controlled communist party process that is used to select members of the govt. Under the Chinese Constitution only citizens (defined as persons holding PRC nationality) enjoy the rights to vote and to stand for election. So China's criticism of Mr Peters is a bit ironic, or even hypocritical. Because- Only Chinese citizens can vote (and only in limited local people’s congress elections at the lowest levels; higher levels are indirect). Foreigners cannot hold government positions. Naturalization is legally possible but extremely rare. Out of China's population of 1.3 billion, there are only about 1500 naturalised citizens. So go Winston and up yours Helen.
