I was just reminded that it was exactly 30 years ago today that the Chancellor hit me on the shoulder with her hat in the Jock Harty Arena and I was officially granted an MD degree. It’s been quite the ride!

@kristatee @rvanwylick It certainly is! By 2019, Grant Hall was hosting up to 25 Spring ceremonies due to the limited space vs number of graduates (~5000 a year). Post-Covid, Convocation has been moved to Slush Puppy Place and there are about 6 ceremonies now.

@rvanwylick Congratulations!!! My (undergrad) convocation was also at Jock Harty, almost exactly 20 years ago. My little brother’s convocation was at Grant Hall, as Jock Harty was being demolished by then. It must be massive logistics to be in the smaller space!

@gavatron Space: Do you have littles who spread everything out, or teens who hide in their rooms? Someone who needs hobby space? Distance: really only 5 mins diff (15 min walk vs 20 min drive). What is most convenient for the most people? Are schools a factor?

Looking for your opinion; we're looking at two houses in Kingston, similar $$ but different otherwise. We're a family of four. Would you rather: live within 15 minutes of work, but with little space, or live in a house with lots of space, but need to drive 20 minutes 1-way?

@DrMeghanNorris @jacasiegel In Outlook, setting up Quick Parts and/or autocorrect can be a huge time saver. Also embrace Categories - sorting them all into categories allows you to focus on one subject at a time (e.g. at a glance you can find all emails related to Research).

@jacasiegel Some emails require similar responses. Make use of the template tool for your email program. It can save a lot of time, and cuts down frustration from writing similar things multiple times. I actually prefer a Word doc to the Outlook template system, but I’m archaic.

I’m usually very on top of my emails, but I was busy today and couldn’t filter through them as they came in. I have 97 unread messages from today alone (3 are review requests). Senior academics…. How do you do this?

At work, masks are still required. Went into common space today and the number of noses & chins poking out of masks is infuriating. These are the same people who will then complain they are at risk if they can't be remote. Do your part. Care about community. Don't be a maskhole.
