What we call “UFOs” and “aliens” may be nothing more than the costumes of something far older, far stranger, and far more intelligent than humanity has ever imagined. We assume these visitors are physical beings in physical craft because we are physical beings who build physical craft. But the phenomenon may just be meeting us on our level, adopting a shape we can tolerate, a language we can recognize, and a technology we can conceptualize, even if none of it reflects its true nature. Which all evidence points toward.
In truth, the intelligence behind these encounters most likely isn’t material at all, at least not in any way that fits our physics. If you listen to what every culture has ever said throughout recorded history, we are dealing with something vast, something much older than our species, older than civilization, perhaps older than the Earth itself. Something that is slipping into our realm only when and how it chooses. To communicate with a creature bound by senses, it must generate illusions of familiar forms. Humanoid bodies to “pilot” the craft we’re shown, metallic discs and glowing triangles to mirror the machines we use to move through space. Not because it needs such things, but because we do.
And if this intelligence has been with us for ages, its influence has likely been subtle, patient, and persistent. It nudges civilizations, seeds myths, bends religions, and shapes our fears and fascinations. Not enough to reveal itself—never that—but just enough to steer us. Toward what, we don’t know. Perhaps we cannot ever know.
Because to this entity, humanity may be as limited as a dog staring at its owner, trying to understand where humans go during the day or how food ends up in the can that gets opened each night. The gap between us and it might be just as wide and likely is even wider.
Its motives, its ontology, its “life cycle” totally beyond human comprehension. We may be trying to map infinity with a crayon.
Whether its intentions are benevolent or malevolent is impossible to say. What is clear is that it seems comfortable deceiving us. It allows itself to be named angel, demon, alien, ghost, future humanity, god…whatever suits the era….never correcting our misunderstandings. It shape-shifts through our history, hiding its real identity behind masks we invent because it benefits from our confusion. It manipulates us without explanation and influences us without consent.
And the most unsettling possibility is this:
It doesn’t care if we ever understand what it truly is.
It only cares that we continue moving toward whatever goal it has set, a goal we cannot see, cannot stop, and cannot even begin to comprehend.
