"Making policies almost enjoyable" - I think we found Termageddon's new tagline during our latest podcast interview. Thank you Abby and the Content Lab crew for putting this all together! Interview: contentgoodies.com/cg-podcast/epi…

The situation with websites security is totally fine. Just 500,000 websites hacked in last year alone. Our team is currently at @MSPglobalevent , so if you’re around - give our booth a visit!

@DeepSpaceHans So cool!! Yeah haha property taxes and roads are ridiculous. Other than that is wonderful. Avanatis is the best - gondolas, tortellini, etc. If you’re ever down here, happy to grab lunch!

@ianmisner Yeah, exactly. Plugin shops that have great support carry the water for other plugin shops. Hans and Donata at @termageddon get to carry the water for Divi more than they'd like. All of us have to carry the water for GoDaddy. It's a vicious cycle.

If a user (anywhere, on any platform, of any product/service) has a good "support" experience they'll keep leaning on that support. So if you average single digit minute response times 24/7/365 and consistent 95%+ CSAT scores, you're bound to get a TON of support requests that have absolutely nothing to do with you. As much as I like to bag on companies like WPEngine and Kinsta and (a very short list of) others, they ALSO carry an enormous amount of water for the wider WP ecosystem. If every proper managed WordPress host disappeared tomorrow a whole bunch of plugin and theme shops would drown within a week. So hat tip to the other folks in the arena. It's noble work, even when it's not "your" job to do it. Especially then.
Derek Ashauer@DerekAshauer

@gridpane @famousish Wholeheartedly agree. Next time we’re in the same room 🍻 on me for sure. I guess I don’t consider how many users go to their host first for issues with their plugins but I guess it makes sense why many do!

Today’s unplanned comedy episode: hopped on a podcast call, I thought he invited me, he thought I invited him. Two hosts, no guests, just us laughing at our scheduling fail. Hilarious! A great end to the week!

@heyamberhinds I think that's good. If he doesn't, it's on him. I wouldn't worry too much, if it was factually correct he can huff and puff all he wants.

Stressor of the day: a plugin company included in one of our blog posts comparing accessibility has gotten mad and has both A) threatened to sue me unless I retest (for free) their plugin and verify all fixes, then update the blog post on their specified timeline, and B) wrote a ton of retaliatory negative reviews of our plugin and company across the internet (including one in which they lied and said they hired/paid us to audit). They aren't mad that the blog post is inaccurate (they acknowledged it was factual at the time of publication), just mad that it hasn't been updated for their latest version. I do my best to retest plugins/themes, and update old blog posts. However, I cannot guarantee a timeline, as this type of accessibility testing is unpaid and requires a significant time commitment to set up a staging copy of a plugin and thoroughly test it. I have to fit it in around my client work, other volunteer work, and family time. Weeks ago, I offered to add a link to an Accessibility Conformance Report or statement from a different trusted accessibility specialist if they could provide one, but they didn't send one over. (Likely because they haven't hired anyone to test it and can't provide proof of accessibility.) How are people handling the update of old content that may not be accurate, particularly if it requires a significant time investment to retest?
