Alright, that was akward
A 6 Sigma beat on Non-Farm Payrolls
We dumped first, closed some shorts
I suppose I opened them too early
Maybe when scalping, I need to stay focus on my desk instead of studying in the library
Scalps shorts became underwater positions

I've been a professional bond trader for 35 years. 18 at the greatest bond trading house in history and the balance at two of the greatest hedge fund bond trading firms in history. You be the judge if I know how to trade bonds.
I sell my macro research to a dozen of the biggest hedge funds on the planet. They seem to value my insight on bond trading as do my clients at dampedspring.com. Perhaps a disgraced equity trader who poses as a kitty knows more than me but that's for others to decide
Here's how bonds work.
Did you know that if you buy a two year bond at 5% yield and hold it for 2 years you make 5% per year for two years no matter what interest rates do in the meantime. It's called fixed income for a reason. Of course you could instead buy 1 year bills at 5.37% and after 1 year roll to another 1 year bill. As long as bills are over roughly 4.63% yield in 1 year you'd be better off than buying two year bonds today. Worst case they yield 0 and then you underperform modestly. That's how cash bond investing works and I own a lot of short dated cash bonds in my beta account. BUT.
Speculating directionally with leverage is a completely different beast. If you buy the TUA ETF today 22.06 you are buying a 5X levered position on the two year note future. If the CPI is hot tomorrow and two year interest rates go up to 5.25 two year note futures will fall by from 101 16 to 101 and TUA will fall 2.5% in a single day. Similarly if CPI is cold two year note futures will rally and TUA will go up 2.5% in a single day.
This is how bond traders at hedge funds at Salomon Brothers (in the old days) and at every fixed income floor on the planet think about bond trading for alpha.
They don't use stupid long term "investing" bond math and ignore the return on cash foregone when shifting money from cash to bonds
They use bond math to make absolute returns. They buy bond futures when they think yields will fall and sell them when they think yields will rise and trade them like any other future, option, or levered cash investment.
I have been bearish bonds for about two months. I have made 7% unlevered return in excess of returns in cash on that position. I am still short bonds if I am correct and who knows if I will be I expect to earn another 7% on my bond position in the next two months. That's pretty sweet earning 14% in 4 months.
I also will go long bonds soon. Perhaps long two's in a levered fashion as early as tomorrow because I trade bonds. But if you got sucked into buying a levered position or even an unlevered position in bonds when Kitty told you to buy your out 7% and will be holding that bag for a year and a half before you get your money back if your lucky. If your leveraged as a real bond trader would be you have been stopped out.

@nik_algo @therobustway have u tried borrowing onchain to short? not sure if this is a direction to explore
English

@Degen_Cramer @therobustway It’s always like that with spreads where spot is above the futures
MM is taking all the liquidity before, so we’re left with nothing 🫡
English

@nik_algo @therobustway ah i see didnt know that theres insufficient amount to borrow for spot
English

@Degen_Cramer @therobustway Not sure what else could I short
Spot is never an option with those spreads
