@OfficialBrohoss There was that WSJ article a few months ago about how you could get a yard there if you deconverted a duplex

@chi_urbanist The houses to the left piss me off: new builds for $3M and they didn't put brick on the side!
English

@TheRealVarnVlog I joined a CSA a year ago, and now I love braising all the tough cuts or grilling a book over a skirt steak, etc. Even made tacos de lengua recently—there are no bad animal parts!
English

@DegrowthQuant hell, I have always bought cheaper cuts because I know how to cut them and I don't eat a ton of meat. But that's just me

How many fonts are there?
Mayor Brandon Johnson@ChicagosMayor
My statement on the shooting of two police officers at Endeavor Health Swedish Hospital.

@GergelyOrosz @LocalManOpines Google has done org-wide buyout open to SWEs multiple times (starting with 30k workers in devices last year—they're now on their second buyout offer) alphabetworkersunion.org/press/alphabet…
English

@LocalManOpines They did buyouts, but software engineers were not eligible there! It was corp dev AFAIK
English

@andrew_anon_ @bucephalus424 Yeah, preference for expensive SUVs and trucks has been there for +10y and 5min BYD/CATL charging just happened in the past 6mo. American car companies (notably minus Tesla) started with Hummer EV, F-150 Lightning, and Rivian SUVs to slate upper-class tastes
English

@babakuntos I find his sneering prose/attitude annoying, but also in Hinterlands he made a big bit about Chicago being a suburban logistics hub and then this guy mapped warehouses and found it was totally untrue phenomenalworld.org/analysis/the-b…

@provisionalidea @AlexanderMcCoy4 Google employees went much harder against Israel contracts after Gaza, but when faced with the choice of firing 50 employees or dropping a $1B contract, they immediately chose the former
English

@provisionalidea @AlexanderMcCoy4 Project Maven was an example of VP weakness (and the actual contract being low value). Tech execs have since learned that their employees won't actually quit or strike—just complain—so it's very easy to ride out and/or fire them

I see a lot of posts like this from OpenAI employees, and it’s great they feel heard this way, but at the end of the day the Global Affairs team of OpenAI is implementing a lobbying strategy that is explicitly evil and against the employees’ stated values, & this “internal discussion” doesn’t seem to have any affect on that reality in practice.
Boaz Barak@boazbaraktcs
This is true, and of course there is even more internal discussion. One of the aspects of OAI culture I like is a robust culture of internal debate and criticism, which is crucial IMO to avoid groupthink.

@jakewoolf I had the orange suede one. Liked that silhouette a lot and were MiUSA (?)
English

@macrocephalopod how is it possible that the founder of stripe fell for one of the most disgusting chart crimes immediately last week? credentials and past performance are evidently not indicative of future results 🤣
English

@vanillaopinions @Eric_Erins 4bd/2.5ba duplex down condo. 3k mortgage, 1.8k taxes, 400 HOA, 150 insurance. ~5.4k total

@ForeverIzer @RashmanTheHorse The guy who said he and Luxemburg were the only real communists?
English

This is romanticism. The 2020 riots were not particularly class conscious. They capped off the entire 2010s trend of leaderless, organization-less, and essentially apolitical social unrest that blew off steam but achieved (and even demanded) nothing substantial.
The fed up Chef@TheChefsGardens
We were closer in 2020 but people panicked, threw a tantrum and demanded their comfortable misery back

@jakewoolf Where is the belt from?
English

@tianyuf These all just look like DoorDash or Uber and Americans use those all the time

@dieworkwear I went to the Wythe store once, saw like max 20 items on the floor, couldn't figure out who worked there over the blaring record player, so I tried walking around looking confused for 10min feeling fabrics, wasn't approached by anyone, and then left
English

@jakewoolf I got some fatigue pants from them and they're very nice, but the XL had a 31" inseam and had to be let all the way out with some lining, and I'm only 6'2"
English

@BigMeanInternet What's really funny is that they shuffled the guy in charge of that to be in charge of their AI efforts
