My husband's grandparents legally immigrated to the USA from Germany in the early 1900s. Ended up owning a cheese factory in Wisconsin, raising 4 boys and 1 girl (my mother-in-law) who were all born here. All the boys went to WWII. They were proud immigrants, eager to assimilate, wanting to learn the language, earn a living, contribute. What happened?!?
