@frankcottrell_b @AvantiWestCoast I used to get train to Euston every week for work. Does John still say “the only train running with all staff who come from their hometown in Liverpool” and “Liverpool, forever the Capital of Culture” He made me feel like I’d arrived home even before we left Euston. Top bloke.

@AvantiWestCoast the 19.03 Euston to Lime Street tonight. Train manager John makes the whole (crowded) train feel like guests rather than customers. Brilliant guy.

@DCBMEP US and rest of the world expensive to get to. My son benefited massively from Erasmus, managing a year’s study in Sweden meeting other students from across the world Neither he (nor we) could afford to send him any further afield . Why not take advantage of proximity of Europe?!

Erasmus was great for EU students to come to UK at our expense - costing UK taxpayers to subsidise them (they now pay international fees) and taking places that could have gone to British students. It is all part of pushing the EU’s superstate project too. The UK Turing scheme is much better and much more global. British students are more interested in US and rest of world than just Europe. We should scrap this Erasmus membership straight after next election.
Politics UK@PolitlcsUK

🚨 NEW: The UK has officially signed up to rejoin the EU’s Erasmus+ scheme from 2027 It means students, apprentices and young people will be able to study and work across Europe

@davemorrissey64 @ITVX Absolutely adored this series. All the cast exceptional and your scene with Anna at the school was mesmerising. Don’t know if it was intentional for you to straighten your jacket collar as you walked away and shoved your jacket back on but this was so in character!

Just listened to @BBCr4 Soul Music. Song was Bob Dylan’s Make You Feel. Thought that song was about unrequited love. In bits here listening to various individual stories and interpretations. Fantastic!

@VictoriaCoren @BBCTwo Confess I’ve just looked this up because I was convinced I had read somewhere (in a time and land far far long ago) this was a town in Austria not Norway. Was convinced! Well, there you go.

One of my favourite questions of the series appears in tonight’s #OnlyConnect - I’d better not tell you the whole thing, but it starts “A village in Norway, annually.” And if you can get it from that, I’ll see you next series! 8pm @BBCTwo

@StigAbell You are so right. Just as shocking as the first time I saw it. Beautifully written and produced as all of the Blackadder series were.

The First World War miraculously produced all sorts of high culture. But every year on this day it is worth watching the ending of the greatest sitcom, which somehow managed to catch the tone of remembrance exactly, perfectly right.

@bbcriotwomen I was in tears watching the scene with her character and Holly. They were both so good it felt like I was in the room with them. Very moving.

@SteveChalke @frankcottrell_b @BBCr4today Agree with all of the reasons you have given. Could also be sign of worrying trend not to go with hard work of learning a language when there are many AI tech translators in the market now? Whilst tech can be a great enabler this should not be at cost of loss of cultural aspects.

On @BBCr4today this morning at 7.50 talking about why fewer students are taking up modern foreign languages - especially at A Level? My answers poverty (much more take up in affluent areas), lack of opportunity & therefore aspiration, plus relative scarcity of language teachers.

@hugorifkind @terrychristian Relatives of ours in California are telling us the local car dealers are putting an extra line on their invoices stating very boldly “Trump Tariff” rather than blending into the overall price. So it’s very clear.

The only certainty of tariffs for the next three months now seems to be that American will pay more tax. Who's the stooge here, exactly?

Before the documentary comes out tonight - there’s a lot of scams out there pretending to be me. Do not respond to anyone who messages you personally who says they’re me. Please be careful. Do not give any personal details. Stay safe. X

@LukeEdwardsTele Absolutely this. He had the right amount of diplomacy which the situation demanded (but not too much) and stood his ground when he needed to. Job done for now.

Early days, but Sir Keir Starmer made himself an international statesman on his visit to the White House. A leader and a diplomat. A serious Prime Minister rather than a social media clickbait merchant. Pulled off something we haven’t seen since Blair and Bush in terms of cementing special relationship with USA. It won’t be universally popular. He will be attacked by left and right, but he’s used to that. Doesn’t seem to bother him. What he’s done is look after the national interest and that’s all you want to see from your PM.
