@sweatystartup I did a 15 minute interview with a guy recently. Notified him how long the interview will be, then asked him to briefly introduce himself. By the time he finished his introduction the interview was over.

I once logged in for a meeting, introduced myself and a guy spoke non stop for 15 minutes. All over the place. Couldn’t even nudge in or politely interrupt to get conversation back on track. Eventually I just interrupted, said I had something come up, logged off and closed the tab. I had no other choice. It’s amazing how much a lot of people talk. Being able to keep it short and concise (email too) is a superpower.

Making a new company rule: everyday at 4pm, everyone in the office spends 15 minutes cleaning. Tried this at my old company and there was a revolt. But doing it now once when we get our new office in a few weeks. - I hate clutter. Makes me anxious. - the way you do one thing is the way you do everything. Which goes with our values of competitive excellence. - our office always has guests and want it looking nice I read a book on how the Rakuten founder implemented and loved it. So we are copying. Then will make rules on being ready for meetings and starting right on time (and how they should be run). I am not naturally the most disciplined person. But I’ve found the more rules I put on myself, the more constraints, the less stress and happier I am, and the better I perform.

Our hiring framework: 1. Humble (no ego) 2. Hungry (motivated) 3. Smart (high EQ+IQ) Everything else can be taught.
