One of my goals on entering this job almost a year ago was to foster relations with the amazing republics of Central Asia, which are rich in history, culture, and human and natural resources. Under the leadership of @POTUS @realDonaldTrump and @SecRubio, we've exceeded my expectations; there is now deep economic and security cooperation with the region and excellent personal relations. In this context, I was delighted to welcome Abdulaziz Kamilov, Advisor to @president_uz Mirziyoyev, and his distinguished delegation today to discuss shared priorities including counterterrorism, investment, and migration. Very valuable to hear the perspective from this part of the world! 🇺🇸🤝🇺🇿

And now the Bolivian police have done it again! Acting in cooperation with the Brazilian police, they just arrested and extradited to Brazil the dangerous narcoterrorist Douglas de Azevedo a/k/a “Mancha.” This is what happens when a government decides to start enforcing its laws and replaces complicity with integrity. 🇺🇸🇧🇴🫡🇧🇷🇺🇸

I want to add my congratulations to President @Rodrigo_PazP and the Bolivian Government for the bold and successful operation involving the capture of Sebastian Marset, a major international drug trafficker. He is now in custody in the US facing trial. Thanks to the new government, Bolivia is no longer a haven for criminals. The Bolivian people can be very proud of a brilliant operation by their police. Getting this criminal off the streets is good for Bolivia, the US, the region, and the world. 🇺🇸🤝🇧🇴

Thanks for highlighting this. I share your concern that all parts of our civic life are becoming dull and uninspired/uninspiring. This is the great danger of bureaucratization. There’s no reason passports shouldn’t have a little flair and it pains me when things get affirmatively uglier and more generic. I’ll look into this decision and see what I can do.

The risk of a leak due to the endemic corruption here must have been very high. The DEA played its role well. Please, Morales must be next.

Santiago’s Cathedral is really quite sublime, and looked stunning for today’s service.

The emotional climax of my trip to Santiago, Chile, was attending an interfaith service in the city’s grand Cathedral to ask for God’s blessings upon new President @joseantoniokast and his team. What really got me, aside from the grandeur of the space, was the knowledge that—almost half a century ago—my own parents had dressed up in their finest to attend worship services and celebrations in that place. I felt that they were looking down on me and were pleased to see me there. 🇺🇸🙏🇨🇱

Relations with foreign governments that separate their Executive and Legislative powers, like Chile, also entail engagement with the Legislative Branch. I was delighted to have the opportunity to congratulate the new Presidents of Chile’s Senate and Chamber of Deputies, Paulina Núñez and Jorge Alessandri respectively, and express our desire to work constructively with them. Also pleased to meet briefly with new Security Minister Trinidad Steinert to underscore our desire to partner with Chile to root out organized crime and cartels in the hemisphere. Lots to do, and we’re committed to actions and results, not just words! 🇺🇸🤝🇨🇱

God bless you! Thank you for sharing that with me. He always had great respect and appreciation for our Marine Security Guards, as do I. In fact, one former marine told me that my father recognized him on the sidewalk in New York City many years later. That was just the kind of man he was. Appreciate your service. 🇺🇸🇨🇱

Today I head to Santiago as the head of the U.S. delegation to President-elect Kast's inauguration, March 10-12. It's an especially emotional trip for me, as my family lived there from 1977-82 when my father served as U.S. Ambassador to Chile. I'm honored to return more than forty years later to represent @POTUS and @SecRubio and launch a new phase in our bilateral relations characterized by strong security and commercial ties. 🇺🇸📷 🇨🇱

I feel a special kinship with President @joseantoniokast, perhaps because we both grew up in Chile at the same time (he’s about two years younger than me). You can tell right away that he’s a man of values and of his word (“hombre de confianza”). Our governments share the same priorities of fostering private-sector-driven economic growth, opportunity for all, and security from crime and illegal migration. Needless to say, we had very warm and constructive meetings over the past few days and I truly believe that we’re entering a golden age of US-Chile relations. ¡Enhorabuena estimado Presidente! It has been a great honor, and an emotional experience, to return to Chile, where I lived as a teenager, to represent @POTUS @realDonaldTrump and @SecRubio at the inauguration of President @joseantoniokast. The ceremony took place at the new (for me) Congress building in the port city of Valparaiso, followed by a lunch at the official presidential retreat in nearby Viña del Mar. I was very moved by the new President’s kind words about my father’s tenure as US Ambassador here almost 50 years ago, and look forward to working with him and his team on economic and security priorities for both our peoples. A truly incredible day for the great people of Chile, their new President and his beautiful family, and US-Chile relations. ¡Viva Chile! ¡Viva USA! 🇺🇸 🇨🇱
