Afgelopen zondag zijn wij geconfronteerd met een actie van een groep die zich identificeerde als XR. Ons restaurant werd omsingeld door circa twintig personen, deels met gezichtsbedekking, waarbij een situatie ontstond die wij als dreigend en intimiderend hebben ervaren. Tijdens deze actie werden wij publiekelijk uitgemaakt voor fascisten en werden afbeeldingen met Hitler-context in relatie tot onze onderneming getoond. Daarnaast werd er druk op ons uitgeoefend met eisen over wie wij wel en niet zouden mogen ontvangen in onze zaak. Dit wijzen wij nadrukkelijk af. #BARPIAZZA is en blijft een open en inclusieve plek waar iedereen welkom is. Ondanks snelle aanwezigheid van de politie is de situatie niet direct beëindigd. De actie werd verplaatst naar het kruispunt bij ons restaurant en daar voortgezet, waardoor de impact en het gevoel van onveiligheid bleven bestaan. Dit heeft geleid tot verstoring van onze bedrijfsvoering en een onveilig werkklimaat voor medewerkers en gasten. Op basis van de wijze waarop de actie was georganiseerd en uitgevoerd, ervaren wij dit niet als een spontane demonstratie, maar als een gecoördineerde en professioneel ogende operatie waarbij bewust de grenzen van het toelaatbare worden opgezocht. De feitelijke impact op onze veiligheid, reputatie en dagelijkse bedrijfsvoering is daarbij aanzienlijk geweest. Wij zullen aangifte doen wegens belediging, smaad en laster. Uit respect voor de Dodenherdenking op 4 mei hebben wij bewust gewacht met reageren tot 5 mei, Bevrijdingsdag. De beelden van grote rouwbijeenkomsten in Iran tonen massa’s die rouwen om Ali Khamenei. Ze laten iets zien wat sommigen liever negeren: het regime had en heeft een traditionele achterban. Religieus gemotiveerd, ideologisch gevormd, vaak institutioneel verweven met staat en IRGC, maar ook sociaal geworteld in delen van de samenleving. Deze massa’s uitsluitend afdoen als “georganiseerd” of “gedwongen” is analytisch gemakzuchtig. Ja, de mobilisatiecapaciteit van de staat is groot. Maar er bestaat ook een kern van oprechte loyaliteit, gevormd door oorlogservaring, revolutionaire identiteit, anti-westerse narratieven en materiële belangen. Tegelijkertijd bestaan er andere beelden: vreugde, opluchting, stilte, afzijdigheid. Iran is geen eendimensionale samenleving. Het is een land waarin ideologische trouw, opportunisme, vermoeidheid en verzet naast elkaar bestaan. Een serieuze reflectie op de toekomst van Iran vraagt om het erkennen van beide realiteiten: een repressieve machtsstructuur én een resterende sociale basis. Transitie zal geen zwart-wit verhaal zijn.
