The New York Times reported on a private strategy discussion this weekend with Virginia House Democrats where they vented about the Virginia Supreme Court’s ruling tossing their new congressional map. One wild idea floated was lowering the justices’ retirement age to force them all off the court and pack it with new appointees. Nothing’s been acted on yet. It’s angry brainstorming right after a big loss.
Democrats do feel they are above the law. If a Supreme Court ruling is unfavorable to them they try to find a way to replace the Supreme Court Justices on both State and Federal levels.

Board members generally provide oversight on finances and strategy, but routine check-signing is typically handled by staff or designated officers like the treasurer, not every board member. No reports say she personally signed checks for those informant payments. Her knowledge of these payments to informants would be obvious.

Jocelyn Benson was on the Southern Poverty Law Center’s board from around 2014 to 2019. The SPLC was just federally indicted for allegedly funneling over three million dollars to paid informants inside groups like the KKK and Aryan Nations to gather intel. Critics say she should’ve known; her side calls it standard infiltration work that donors weren’t told about. The case is still unfolding.
