This season will be my final ride in the AAU world. After many rewarding years, I’ve decided to hang up the whistle and focus my attention on preparing for retirement on our small hobby farm somewhere south of Ohio. I want to express my deepest gratitude to all the families who have trusted me with their children over the years. It’s never easy placing your son in someone else’s hands and allowing them to help shape his future. The trust you’ve shown me has been incredibly humbling. I’m proud of what we’ve accomplished together! I’m especially proud of the hundreds of players and families I’ve had the privilege to guide and support on their journey to college basketball. A special thank you to @MiddieDK and everyone at @MidwestBBClub for allowing me to play such a pivotal role in the organization and for helping it grow into a powerhouse in the Cincinnati/Dayton area. In my opinion, there isn’t a better organization in the country to be part of. To Matt and Dustin — thank you for all we've done to build @BleacherProspec from the ground up. What started as nothing has become an incredible platform that puts players and their families first. I’m proud of the story we’ve written and how Bleacher Prospect has successfully connected talented players with college coaches. While I’ll be stepping away, the platform is in excellent hands and will continue to grow and evolve with the ever-changing college recruiting landscape. To all the college coaches-thank you so much for believing in me and the players I have advocated for. We have helped so many kids over the years-many who had no idea where to begin in the convoluted college recruiting landscape. Thank you for guiding and teaching me so that I could help others. @mar5hallhoops Happens at middle school team level as well. Hard to compete against teams with all 5 starters as hold backs

If AAU went back to aged based…a lot of kids lives would change. It’s really unfair right now and so many teams have advantages that wouldn’t be afforded to them if it was age based. Most players would just be regular players. But it all evens out later. Temporary glory.

@kyhighs I don’t agree with the logic that “everyone else is doing it and we don’t want to fall behind in modern times”. Then they abandon that logic when it comes to classes in basketball.

@kyhighs Quote “The Board will finalize that proposal development at its July meeting so a vote can be taken by the membership in September”. Didn’t Tackett say at last meeting this vote would happen before the school year started?

This quote from KHSAA commissioner Julian Tackett is telling. Sounds like "one free transfer" is dead: "Clearly, our members and constituencies do not want any form of a one-time, no-criteria, free transfer for every student athlete currently subject to Bylaw 6."

@kyhighs Video is now online. A procedural strategy of introducing a first reading of proposal to meet the May 1 deadline as agenda item 4.1.2. Is the goal to have some updates to bylaw 6 by the start of the school year.

My story from Wednesday's KHSAA Board of Control meeting, where the transfer rule once again was a key discussion point. A KY House joint resolution would require KHSAA to address "process problem" by Dec. 1 courier-journal.com/story/sports/p…

@kyhighs Yes. The HJR deadline is by December and action for the 2026 legislative session. According to the press release there was a first reading of a conceptual plan. The way the press release reads there may be a vote on something at September meeting.

Story coming later, but lots of talk about KHSAA transfer rule. Not even a proposal at this point, but there seems to be some momentum for the transfer rule to not go into effect until the 10th grade, essentially allowing athlete to transfer after freshman year without penalty.

@kyhighs @alanjjones_ A floor amendment by a Representative can set side boards. Eg transfer shall be completed prior to the start of the season and any other transfer must be in accordance with KHSAA Bylaw 6.Another suggestion would be to define “varsity participation” as significant and contributory

@alanjjones_ I think one concern is that the bill doesn’t include any restrictions. Conceivably a kid could get eliminated in a district tournament and go play somewhere else in the regional.
