@SafeCyclingEire @IrishMirror @gardainfo It was a bike with a motor. Thats the issue. Majority of e-bikes are illegal and very little is being done to ensure illegal e-bikes are kept of the road. Therefore a blanket ban is the only answer

I spoke at a road safety conference recently and a fellow panellist was arguing that the vast majority of motorists respect the rules of the road. That’s just not the case. Try driving at the speed limit, and see how many overtake or attempt to overtake you. Speeding is endemic.

Bikes aren’t causing congestion. Every bike is 1 less car in your way.

A motorist who carried out a “spontaneous and dreadful” road rage attack on a 64-year-old cyclist has had his jail term replaced with a fully suspended sentence and his driving ban lifted on appeal. Judge Simon McAleese ordered Glen Corcoran (30) to pay €15k to the family of the victim, who the court heard has has since passed away due to an unrelated illness.
