The second he defines leaving the faith as "treason," he’s saying Islam is not a religion. He’s turning it into a state or a nation that demands political loyalty. Leaving it is treated like rebellion, which is why it gets the death penalty, just like treason against any regular country. He even doubles down when he says "this ruling is applied everywhere, not just Islam." He’s directly comparing it to treason in a state, which means he’s admitting that Islam functions here as a political collective, not as a religion where faith is just a personal matter. To put it plainly: This response isn’t talking about a religion. It’s talking about a state or a nation that punishes people for leaving it. Once apostasy is defined as treason, Islam is no longer a religion. That’s the end of the religious definition.
