Both can be true, but both extremes tend to clash too often without listening to each other. Sometimes repentance does mean working to change yourself. The fact of the matter is, there are those who think once they're forgiven they don't have to change, and can willfully keep doing the behaviors, actions, and sins, and drive others to it as well. I know of some like this. Some people's hearts aren't in it, and it's all a grift. It's fair to cautiously keep an eye out for these as well On the other hand, there are many who expect immediate change or shout down with doubt, doom, and gloom from the get go. Taking up our cross and following Him isn't an easy task, but it's not something we can ignore. Repentance can require action, not every change is sudden and miraculous. Sometimes there are lessons to be learned in the journey that the Lord our God wants us to learn along the way. So one shouldn't be too harsh on those early in Repentance, but we also shouldn't turn a blind eye to red flags if they're there. Though pointing such things out should be done in patience, love, and kindness. Unfortunately, nuance, patience, love, and kindness is lost in this day and age. Too many have been made too bitter by the series of notable events, trends, and state of things, getting their hearts hardened. People are so angry at the state of "The West™️" right now, understandably so, that they've fallen victim to the bitterness of it all, and I get it. It's so easy to just black-pill over it all and rage and lash out at things. To those like this, I ask, just try to keep yourself together, because for every 1000 case you're right about, the 1 who turns to righteousness is worth it in the end. Call out the behaviors and red-flags, sure. But do so in kindness if you must. Not everyone deserves it, no... but neither did we deserve the redemption given to us by The Lord our God, and we're meant to reflect that unto others. Balance it out.

So what do you believe grace, mercy, forgiveness and redemption is supposed to look like? Jumping through hoops? Because Jesus doesn't make us jump through hoops for His love or any of those things. All He asks is that you: Repent, Surrender your life and Follow Him. Pretty simple.

This brand of Christianity is most attractive to women who want zero accountability. The lie is you can just go to god and say “sooooorey” and Jesus comes down from the earth wand waves a Harry Potter wand or something and everything is erased. Grace doesn’t work like that. Grace is just an opportunity. It doesn’t absolve you from have to do the work to overcome consequences and make amends. This is performative anyway down to the last tear, but people will fall for it

Everyone’s getting the sinful past discourse wrong. Those who oppose marrying reformed harlots tend toward neglecting the mercy of God and transformative power of the Holy Spirit. Those who favor it tend toward neglecting psychology and the fact that man is a creature of habit.

Daniel at it again with the truth nuke. Point to add, these points can be made in love. It's a disservice to all to do so with hateful bitterness in your heart, and go around putting others down. Again, keep 1 Corinthians 13 in mind. You can have many gifts and use them for many good works, but without love, you gain nothing. Doesn't mean you can't speak harsh truths, but do so in love, with kindness, to edify and plant seeds of faith in others.

The same people who are screeching at you about porn and pair bonding have literally made their womb a tomb through multiple abortions. Don’t get rage baited bro, just keep moving. Everyone knows porn is bad. Everyone knows promiscuity is bad. And while God through His mercy may not hold many of these grave sins against us, what you have or haven’t done in your life can absolutely disqualify you from spiritual office (just see the guidelines for elder/bishop in the Bible) and from giving unsolicited advice. This whole “it doesn’t matter what you’ve done” perspective is only true about the salvation of our souls. Every person will be recompensed according to the works done in the body, whether they be good or they be bad. People who had porn addictions should not be out here shaming others for body counts, their time would be better spent mentoring others about the dangers of porn. Similarly people who have had promiscuous pasts have no business shaming others for sexual transgressions, their energy and experience would be better utilized warning others of the dangers of sleeping around. You wouldn’t hire a child molester to run a daycare, redeemed or not. So yeah, your past can absolutely determine if you are fit for a role, even if ultimately you are redeemed.

I'm a Christian who didn't wait til marriage. I'm a Christian who has battled anger. I'm a Christian who has put others down. I'm a Christian who has lied to get their way. I'm a Christian that has chased the wrong things. I'm not a Christian because I "check all the boxes" I'm a Christian because I'm weak & broken and I need Jesus Christ. And by God's Grace, He builds me more into the man He wants me to be daily. If you're not a perfect Christian, this page is for you.

Life lesson: doing good is its own reward and you shouldn’t expect anything for it, nor are you owed something for following the rules. A legalist who followed the rules, did every moral thing, and expects to be rewarded with a gorgeous spouse as a result is delusional. A good person who did the right thing because it was right, or it pleased God, is enriched spiritually. It might not make you money or deliver you a model GF, but it keeps you healthy, safe, happy, and secure. A legalist looks at others and complains. That person broke the rules! Fornication, drug use, cam girling, partying, and more?! They don’t deserve to be happy and they don’t deserve a partner when a good person like me can’t find one!! A good person doesn’t concern themselves with the actions of others. They don’t look at past promiscuity with jealousy; they thank God for protecting them from psychological trauma, shame, sexual abuse, and triggers. They don’t pride themselves on being “better” than others, they instead are happy they pleased God and kept themselves safe. A good person and a legalist might look and act the same. But the legalist expects a reward. The good person is merely pleased to honor God and honor their own body. If we look at others who had lots of sex with pretty people, who did kilos of drugs, and who drank until they passed out with a secret envy…then we are angry not at their sin, but the fact that we ourselves were unable to sin the same ways and escape consequences. We wish we could have broken the rules and had fun. If we had the money and looks of others, we’d have sinned the same way. A good person is thankful that they never lived such a sinful lifestyle because they know happiness can’t be found in it. They pity those caught in sin because they know it leads to destruction. Far from idolizing sinners, they live for God. They don’t find the sinful life attractive. Now yes, it’s perfectly fine for a good person to desire another person like them for a spouse. They needn’t marry a former sinner if they don’t want to. But far too many legalists think they are good people, and they want to reap the rewards morality brings, yet they are also enticed by sin. You can’t have it both ways, folks.

Sometimes, yes. Indeed so. But not always. Which is why careful observations and receipts are necessary. This is particular issue is still very real. It's also necessary to check for certain patterns of behavior continuing, and whether or not genuine repentance is happening. Unfortunately, the art of disagreement and objective discussion is largely lost in this day and age, especially online, and things either swing too far either way, without allowing room for proper dialogue & discernment to take place, due to ego.

@maxekpunobi Even to add on to that, not all stereotypes are even bad. Just because something is considered generally true, doesn't mean it has to be a bad thing either. Sometimes it is, for sure though.

Sometimes stereotypes are earned. You don’t get to cause trouble every day and act like the victim. That’s not how life works.
