I found this video on Instagram with the following caption. (Comments were predictably off) I want to know your thoughts. 👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻 ‘I don't even know why I hit record. It was just one of those random mom moments... watching my son and his friends walk to their Uber, excited to spend the evening at The Battery to hang out & watch the fireworks. I had no idea this video would be the last normal moment before something left me with so many questions. Yesterday, my 16 yo son and two of his 16 yo friends wanted to do something most teenagers do... go to The Battery, walk around, and watch the fireworks. I ordered them an Uber. The driver arrived. They got in the car. Then, according to the boys, the driver looked at them and immediately told all three of them to get out. They thought he was joking at first. He wasn't. He canceled the ride and put three 16 year olds out without offering an explanation or making sure they had another way to get where they were going. As a parent, that doesn't sit right with me. Maybe there was a reason. Maybe there wasn't. But from my perspective, it felt like three Black teenage boys were judged the moment they got into that car..not because of anything they did, but because of what they looked like. My son came back in the house confused. He couldn't even tell me what they had done wrong because... nothing had happened. They had literally just gotten in. People often talk about teaching our sons how to behave in public. We do. We teach them to be respectful, say "yes sir" and "no ma'am," keep their hands visible, be polite, and avoid giving anyone a reason to feel uncomfortable. But what do you tell them when they do everything right and are still made to feel like they don't belong?‘ 🤔

One year ago today, Carmen Suero Jr., 70, was murdered by "teens" during a carjacking. Police say Suero drove from Drexel Hill to Philadelphia for an AA meeting when Nasir Brogdon and Nysiir Peoples, both 19, shot him in the back for his car.
