No. No. No. In the 80s you had 3 watchable tv stations and the news. If you were bored you went out. Usually to a bar... because you were bored. Today you stay home, reddit, twitter, online gaming etc. Only an alcoholics drinks 6 beers at home alone. Only an ass sits at a bar ad drinks water.

Boomers were “mean drunks” who’d come home hammered and beat their family Gen Xers were “fun drunks” who maybe had some beers on the couch every day and it totally wasn’t alcoholism but it kinda was Gen Z grew up with them as parents and grandparents so of course they don’t drink.
S.🎧@1ssve

Serious Question: The alcohol industry has lost $830 billion in the last 4 years, because Gen Z is not drinking. Why do you think they aren’t drinking?

That looks like a baby bump, sub 4 in. A veh w more travel greater than 4 in should actually be a semi smooth ride. In practice if you are going 80 mph slam the brakes down to 50 mph just before you hit you can easily compress those 5 in of wheel travel and now hitting that bump at 50 is way way worse than hitting it at 80 mph. Go watch videos of ford raptors doing their thing. It's honestly amazing stuff.

What happens if you hit a speed bump at speed? Say 50 mph or so? Assume it's an emergency, the person had to flee, and slowing down just wasn't an option. They're driving a commonly available vehicle, say a car or SUV. Does it cause lasting damage? If so, to what systems? How much damage? Is it repairable? What kind of repairs are needed? Is it easier to replace the vehicle than try to repair it?

@ALowd34 @coffeeatword @The_Kyle_Mann I don't think you are wrong. I didn't realize lucas started his revisionist actions in 1981. I'm sorry if I was repeating myself I was more shocked that he did that than anything. I just had a VHS copy that said ANH and I was like no way he renamed it afterwards.

@Desert_Hills @coffeeatword @The_Kyle_Mann Right and none of us GenXers paid any attention. Legit I think I only hear people start calling it ANH in the early 2000s. We just always call the first film Star Wars. So if we say “I’m gonna watch Star Wars” no one asks “which one”. We know exactly which one. Yes I’m pedantic

Seriously would I watch a 2 hr fat electrician break down Cuban relations. Yes. Yes I would. Would I already know most of it, yes. Do i think Gen Z would know even 10% of it? No I do not. I think we need more videos explaining why the 3rd world exists that arent driven by communists who want to blame capitalism. But every non-communist just says "it's obvious" and that isn't helpful when the commies make volumes of propaganda.

They stole billions of dollars from US companies and citizens, so we quit doing business with them. “I stole from you and now you won’t do business with me because you’re concerned I’ll steal from you. Clearly, you’re the bad guy and it’s your fault I’m struggling.” Huge IQ take.

@ALowd34 @coffeeatword @The_Kyle_Mann The subtitle "Episode IV – A New Hope" was added retroactively to the opening crawl during its theatrical re-release on April 10, 1981

Since I saw it in 1978 and grew up playing with the Kenner figures, having the lunchboxes, package cards, clothes etc etc 1 that movie is only, and always, Star Wars. Even spending $100 to get the letterbox versions in the early 90s and watching them 53622727 times none of us ever said “A New Hope”. In 1997 when the new versions came out it was still just “Star Wars” 2 the main character to all of us playing was Han, Vader was 2nd. We all all wanted to be Han. Luke was the sidekick who Became a Jedi but it was always Han for us

@coffeeatword @The_Kyle_Mann I will also say george was a revisionist bastard, muddying the story, trying to erase the past. Refusing to release the pure unspecialized starwars onto dvd.

@itsanhonour_ If true they should have no trouble building ONLY in service areas that haven't had a brown out in the last 10 years. If true, let's front load the upfront costs of scaling up power production onto data centers, then they can reap more of those savings they generate. Lol lol

say it with me: Data centers can actually lower consumer bills bc utilities have HUGE fixed costs (ie transmission) that don’t change with usage adding a massive new demand from data centers spreads those fixed costs across far more total kw/h sold, which reduces the price per unit for everyone
Ben Schifman@BenSchifman

Narrative violation: with the right policy, new data centers can *lower* electricity prices by spreading the fixed costs of the grid out among more paying customers.

@ThrillaRilla369 @NoLimitGains Secretly ozempic is having a massive impact as well. 10% of American are taking some form. It's crushing the FF industry. You cant finish a whole super meal deal. You dont want to drink 64oz of coke. The 10% are their former best customers too.

McDonald’s, Wendy’s, and Burger King are all quietly waving the same white flag: customers are “pulling back.” A few years ago you could still grab a decent fast-food meal for $5–6. Today? The same combo often hits $10–12, sometimes more. Fries alone went from side-dish pricing to “add-on tax.” When even the cheapest calories in America start feeling expensive, it’s not just bad menu math. It’s a signal that wallets are tapped out and priorities are shifting. Groceries, gas, rent — everything crept up together, and the drive-thru finally felt the squeeze. People aren’t boycotting burgers. They’re simply running out of budget for them. The economy isn’t “fine” just because the stock market is up. When the Golden Arches start blinking yellow, pay attention.
