@akarlin @Logic_App @DrewPavlou @captgouda24 Just because you've called for something that won't happen doesnt provide a rationalization for endorsing a current policy that is contingent on that thing that isnt happening.

this doesn’t hold up to scrutiny. there’s something about a guy in a tuxedo telling you to become a welder that infuriates people. the average welder in the us gets $24.50 an hour or $51,000 per year. the top 10% make more than $75,000 and the bottom 10% make under $38,000. manufacturers could absolutely get more people to become welders if they paid them what people with email jobs get for doing basically nothing. they are obviously worth it. welder wages have increased about 15% in the past decade, so they haven’t caught up with inflation. a mid-career welder today is doin worse financially than one in 2016. if manufacturers were really desperate for welders they would double the pay and people would enter the trades in droves. what ceos like chris power have increased spending on is automation. welding is one of the main things they want to automate (and also the one of the hardest). so if you become a welder today, you can expect to barely survive financially for the next 10-15 years before you’re probably replaced by a robot.
Molly O’Shea@MollySOShea

BREAKING: Chris Power CEO of Hadrian says “Everyone should tell their kids to quit college & get welding degrees” "The country needs you." “The next 2 decades is blue collar.” Hadrian is also bringing back Pepperidge Farms & baking. “All the white-collar jobs are going to get automated.” “We’re gonna see massive hyperinflation in blue-collar salaries.” "I think one of the greatest opportunities for private capital — apart from public-private investment alongside the Department of War (@DeptofWar) — is to build Chick-fil-A’s & bars around all of our factories. That’s free alpha. Please come set up franchises around all of our factories. We need to eat so we can work harder for the country." People around here are such poor judges of character. I don't care what "Dan Bilzerian," "Corey Putsch," or "James Fishback" think about anything - they're all loathesome scammers without an ounce of integrity. If you can't see that, go back to binging true crime on Netflix

@eigenrobot The most significant thing about this story was not just that it was fake in itself, but the sources American journalists went to for quotes were caught blatantly lying about it and journalists continued relying on them anyway as if it had never happened.

@mattyglesias My stance on pluralism is that if it comes with defecation on public beaches and dumping garbage in lakes, I'm against it.

America was nearly lost to a cabal of NGOs, think tanks, foundations, specialty media organizations, compromised mainstream media organizations, quasi-governmental organizations and all other manner of other well-funded (often with taxpayer dollars) players dedicated to preserving extra-governmental controls over the average American, all outside the scope of what Americans vote for. The men and women behind these organizations claim to want to benevolently advance public policy, when in reality their singular purpose is to maintain and grow the nefarious personal power they have achieved. Above all else they must defend their fiefdoms, the good of the nation be damned. When reformers try to undo any part of this cabal, those reformers are inevitably smeared, libeled, slandered and threatened. The goal is to prevent them from engaging in that necessary reform by intimidating them into silence. Food for thought.

@MKPB408 @Dfrostim @timocasek @AriSchulman The only adjustment the US can make is decide to not be Israel’s bitch anymore and instead focus on what’s best for the American people and withdraw from the war But Trump is not gonna do that. Mossad has dirt on him and he can’t handle them blackmailing him with it. He’s a cuck

This should be the biggest story in the country right now. Barksdale is the HQ for our B52 nuclear bombers, it's where Bush sheltered on 9/11, and the drones are reported as "far more sophisticated than anything seen in Ukraine ... and well beyond Iranian capabilities."

@timocasek @AriSchulman I’m not cheering for anyone. I’m not a sadist, who thrives on deaths and all that jazz. I’m just telling as it is. This is an asymmetrical war that the US is gonna lose and it’s gonna be pretty bad. You guys are absolutely delusional and oblivious to what’s actually happening

I'm not going to dis AOC's B.A., but do you really think earning a bachelor's degree is a more impressive achievement than taking a small family business w/ 6 employees and turning it into a company with over 300 employees and $20 million in annual sales? If so, you're an idiot.
Arlen Parsa@arlenparsa

AOC graduated with honors from Boston University with double degrees in Economics and International Relations. Markwayne was the only Senator without even a bachelor’s degree. Hope that helps.

@karpathy I've also given it explicit personalization instructions to not mirror mood and to never engage in corporate smoothing or engagement tactics. It does seem to help.

@karpathy Im running a timestamped markdown memory file to give Claude explicit temporal context, enabling staleness reasoning and working on some way to decay-weight persistent memory snippets across conversations.

One common issue with personalization in all LLMs is how distracting memory seems to be for the models. A single question from 2 months ago about some topic can keep coming up as some kind of a deep interest of mine with undue mentions in perpetuity. Some kind of trying too hard.

First of all, China's rise, to the extent it has risen, was completely facilitated by the international order which was created by the United States post-WW2. Secondly, if one were to actually "learn from China" you would learn to: - Militarize the South China Sea - Steal territory from your neighbors using completely fabricated historical nonsense - Salami slice your near abroad - Subsidize, overproduce, and export en-masse to trading partners to kill their domestic industries - Put other partner countries under crippling debt to build shitty infrastructure projects - Steal billions upon billions worth of intellectual property - Suppress, crush, and imprison any domestic dissent - Run endless cyber and information campaigns against your ideological foes - And complain about the West all while using Western systems to enrich yourself. Among other things.
Jason Smith - 上官杰文@ShangguanJiewen

🇨🇳China is the ONLY modern world power to ascend to its status, in peace. Spain was an empire. France was an empire. The UK was an empire. The USA is an empire. China is a global trading partner. We should learn from China's example. Facts matter.✔️

The idea that a criminal can bypass border security and then the US taxpayer is on the hook to pay $40,000 per year for eighteen years to educate their children is simply insane. It never should have been allowed to happen.
.@GregTSargent

Awful: Stephen Miller is privately floating the idea of restricting funding for the public education of undocumented kids. This has long been a right-wing dream: They want to get SCOTUS to reverse Plyler v Doe and further chip away at 14th Amendment. New: newrepublic.com/article/208114…
