GB : NG ESO is currently paying £500/MWh to dump power into the continent. With inertia forecast to be really low due to low Sunday demand, lots of sun and good wind generation, NG ESO has been reversing the interconnectors to create additional demand in GB to give it headroom to fire up CCGT to provide extra spinning mass on the system. This was cheaper to do overnight but this is now a super expensive option as power prices are plunging over the neighbouring markets as we get into the sunny part of the day and it becomes more expensive to reverse interconnectors. NG ESO is now reaching for relatively cheap offshore wind options and combining this with expensive interconnector trades. This requirement for volume to be dumped into the continent is driving trading in markets neighbouring GB. ^PH
