NEW: Greek government seeks to ban anonymous social media accounts.

The Greek government is moving forward with plans to end anonymity on social media platforms. Digital Governance Minister Dimitris Papastergiou has described the measure as essential to combat rising toxicity, hate speech, coordinated harassment campaigns, and the spread of fake news. He argues that anonymous accounts allow people to attack others or spread lies without facing any real consequences. The proposal has been under discussion for months and is now being managed directly from Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis’ office. Deputy Prime Minister Pavlos Marinakis has clarified that users will still be able to use pseudonyms, but every account will need to be linked to a verifiable real identity through checks carried out by the platforms themselves. The whole EU is pushing this sh*t
