The dreaded and way more dangerous ice threat looms large. Here is what you need to know right now: 🧊 The Ice Reality: Our trends are locking in an "Icy Mix" rather than just soft snow for many areas, and that exact location is still unknown. While we all love the look of snow, ice is what causes the real trouble. We are looking at a HIGH-impact event regarding icy roads and power outages. 🚗 Travel Impacts: Expect travel to become difficult to impossible late Saturday and through Sunday. If you don’t have to drive, please plan to stay home. Slick roads are a guarantee. ⚡ Power Outages: With the potential for significant icing comes the risk of downed trees and power lines. Now is the time to prepare for possible outages. Check your batteries, charge your devices, and if you have a generator, make sure it’s ready. Heating source alternatives are likely going to be needed. It stays super cold behind this. Did I mention the cold air is a lock this time? ❄️ Regarding Totals: I know everyone wants to know "How much?" It is still too early for specific accumulations and pinpoint locations. We are currently in the window where we are watching the storm type and timing solidify. Once we get into that 1-3 day window, we will have those specific numbers for you. I have unfortunately just learned that @dizzycatdesign has passed away. She fought like hell after her double lung transplant and never stopped living. She was extremely civically engaged and I will miss interacting with her greatly.

At last night's Charlotte City Council meeting, Councilmember @DimpleAjmera said she has heard from several constituents that they are afraid to ride public transit in Charlotte: "I've heard from several constituents regarding how they're afraid to ride our public buses, especially after recent violent incidents, and that is concerning. Clearly, our current safety policies are not enough and with the referendum this November, I'm even more concerned, because we cannot let fear drive people away. So I would like city manager to provide us immediate steps that are being taken to ensure the safety of our riders, our operators, and to restore the confidence in our system."
