1995: C++ is the future 2005: C++ is too hard, learn Java 2010: C++ is irrelevant, learn Python 2016: C++ is old, learn Go 2020: C++ is only for legacy systems 2025: C++ just optimized AI inference by 60%… yeah, legacy.

@beaversteever We need a better programming language, if Devs only could be convinced to use Ada, sorry, I mean Eiffel, sorry I, mean Rust, we'd all be fine.

As a hardware engineer I can't imagine getting paged at 3am because of a system outage if our hardware had outages like that people would literally die why can't software engineers just make more robust software?

@EHz365 @TheFigen_ Small correction: Augusta Ada Byron, also known as Lady Ada Lovelace, was the *daughter* of Lord Byron.

@TheFigen_ Ada Lovelace the niece of Lord Byron who had the Ada programming language named after her and was the first to program Charles Babbage's Difference Engine which is universally considered the first truly programmable mechanical computer not electronic computer.

@IrrenWirr @DoctorGester @LukasHozda Generally I still think programming should be verbose. The person writing the code needs to know what is going on. For example I like Ada but I have no reason to learn it anymore.

- Expression based language - Far better iterators - Far better (though imperfect) async - Way more legible compiler diagnostics - Traits > Templates for most things - Move semantics by default - No implicit invisible type conversion (bar deref-coercion) - Opt-out vs opt-in semantics - More legible generics

@GRobLewis @iyoushetwt The #AdaProgramming language has always been important for mission-critical software, has a long track record of successful projects, and is getting even more relevant for all software that should work reliably. Been there, done that!

@iyoushetwt FORTRAN. COBOL. ALGOL. C. PL/1. Ada. LISP. (You might remember Ada, backed by DoD, and often criticized for being huge and unwieldy. I thought it was more or less passé, but AI says it's enjoying a renaissance in mission-critical software where failure is not an option.)
