Breaking: The Anaheim Ducks have matched a five-year offer sheet extended by the Philadelphia Flyers to center Leo Carlsson, the team announced. Carlsson’s five-year contract worth an average annual value of $18 million will begin in the 2026-27 NHL season and run through the 2030-31 campaign.

@UncorkedPhl tell that to my literal 5 year old and also NHL aging curves. hockeyviz.com/txt/age22

On Bowen Byram: The people posting his advanced analytics and dunking on the deal are posting a weighted average of the past 3 seasons and not acknowledging the significant jump last year. He’s going to continue to grow on both sides of the puck, have a 15 point uptick on the PP, and in a year when the deal actually kicks in no one is going to be talking about it because it will be fair. He will never be the highest paid defenseman in the league because by the time we reach 27/28 there will be a handful of guys making significantly more. But ya a team that’s trying to take a step out of a rebuild is taking a gamble on a young player’s development curve so all the know it alls are going to do their engagement farming, I get it, it’s the game. I love the game and have been known to play ball from time to time as well!
