@Jackpotkimm Would get 2 days at Parx or GP for that, plus the industry heads would go on a "he's a good person or we all make mistakes" social media campaign.

The @Cubs are reportedly calling up their No. 7 prospect, James Triantos, for what would be his MLB debut. The 23-year-old was slashing .306/.344/.440 with Triple-A Iowa this season: atmlb.com/45h4byr

@AlCimaglia She's in the camp "shut up and bet". Nevermind the industry address problems or plan for the future by making a better product. The response is so horse racing. The fans should just show up and pay, because it's horse racing.

@StoleItBreezing @horse_scott Just curious. Can a new track or racino in a different near by location choose harness or regular racing? Harness is the worst. IMO

Could horse racing make a comeback in Illinois? McCook is interested in building a racino. They have 150 acres. 10 miles from me. Let’s get it done

A gambler negotiated custom rules at three Atlantic City casinos and walked out with $15 MILLION in five months. Every casino he beat rewrote its rulebook right after. – Don Johnson was a 49 year old horse-racing statistics executive from Bensalem, Pennsylvania with a serious blackjack background. – In late 2010, struggling Atlantic City casinos were desperate for high rollers. Johnson used it as leverage. – He didn't count cards or cheat. – He simply negotiated the table conditions before sitting down. – A hand-shuffled shoe, favorable rules, and a 20% rebate on his losses. – Playing up to $100,000 a hand between December 2010 and April 2011, he took the Tropicana for $5.8 MILLION in one 12-hour session, a record loss for that casino. – He also beat the Borgata for about $5 MILLION and Caesars for over $4 MILLION. – Total haul across the three casinos: roughly $15 MILLION. All legal, all in the open. – Once the run ended, all three casinos quietly killed the loss-rebate deals that had made his edge possible. – Casino insiders started calling it "the Don Johnson Rule." – No casino offers that kind of rebate to a skilled player anymore. He never touched a marked card or hacked a machine. He just asked for rules the casinos were desperate enough to say yes to, then did the math better than they did.

@dcarboni21 @hhhracingpod you can just tell her yourself if you're in the Arlington memories group Facebook page. She's soliciting responses there. Also, patrons alone would not be enough to prop up IL racing. It would need racinos and an increased foal crop to be sustainable.

I recommend everyone write to Patti Davis (the person who wrote the opinion) and explain to her what good racing and bad racing looks like. Apparently, she never saw "Field of Dreams".....build it, and people will come (and did go for years when the product justified its attendance). #horseracing

@InsideThePylons The industry has done a huge disservice to its customers and fan base by merely teaching people how to pick horses, but not how to BET horses. How many fans wish they were told how to bet value early on to offset the inevitable losing streaks?

Yes. It’s definitely one of the problems. Hard to keep customers alive or interested when the people promoted as experts to the viewers keep telling them that a straight beats a flush and always stand on 15 vs a face card or ace.
Track Phantom@TrackPhantom

@GateToWire @InsideThePylons You think the people presenting horse racing on TV are to blame for the position horse racing is in this country?

@joemanb1 @ShotTakingTime I wonder that too. It appears Carey was in over his head and didn't have the financing or ability to get it...he should've been up front so the horsemen and workers could plan.

Owners are walking away with nothing. $90m purchase price against $500m in debt. Owners/trainers are getting stiffed for July purses. Backstretch workers lose their home/employment. No sendoff (funeral) day of racing. Track itself getting demolished. Death without dignity.
BloodHorse@BloodHorse

The July 20 Hawthorne Race Course bankruptcy hearing provided a triple whammy for horsemen: Racing is over; there is no money to pay purses due to them; and they have to clear out by Aug. 31. go.bloodhorse.com/4fltl3C

No two ways around it: Hawthorne closing sucks. There are good, solid, passionate people who work there and give a damn. They're now looking for work in an industry that can't afford to lose people like that...but are somehow simultaneously running out of spots for them to work.
