We are disgusted that a D/deaf BSL user has been told they are expected to attend a hospital appointment tomorrow without interpreting support in place, and that it is somehow their responsibility to arrange their own BSL interpreter. This is not only unacceptable, it is discriminatory. Accessible communication is a legal duty, not an optional extra. To make matters worse, repeated attempts to contact PALS have gone unanswered, with no response to calls or emails, leaving the individual facing unnecessary distress and uncertainty ahead of a healthcare appointment. D/deaf people should never be forced to fight for basic access to healthcare.
