NEW: Universal Credit rises by £6 per week from today. Unfortunately this increase doesn’t reflect the rising cost of essentials, but nevertheless will be a lifeline for many. Our social security system should always cover the cost of essentials and be based on what things actually cost - that’s why we’re calling for an independent body to set the rate of Universal Credit, just like we do for minimum wage.

The Disability Confident scheme is a bad joke. A badge that imposes no requirements to get it is just a badge. A lousy one. The government claims that it wants to "help" disabled people to find work. I've seen scant evidence to back that up. And that's putting it mildly.
Spin Decoders@leith1076

A recent survey by the DWP found that 1 in 3 "Disability Confident" employers had recruited literally zero disabled people since joining the scheme.

People are afraid of disability They can’t comprehend getting sick and never getting better They tell us to try harder They blame it on lifestyle choices. They label us expendable and tell themselves they’ll be the exception No one is the exception. It can happen to anyone.
