@Lesleyknibb He’s a lousy prime minister of no noticeable integrity or principle. Mandelson alone should have ended him. He appears to have wanted power for the sake of power. He blows like a feather in the wind, U-turning so often he must have permanent whiplash.

I still defend my reaction because why would you eat the pregnant woman’s dessert without even asking first? Especially when there was only one slice left and everybody in the house knew it belonged to me. He apologized immediately but I was genuinely devastated. I still bring it up years later because some things do not need to be forgiven quickly. Every time I see cherry pie now I remember the betrayal.

There is a myth, very widely held in Labour, that we achieved an huge popular victory in 2024 under Starmer. In fact we won 9.7 million votes, over 3 million fewer than in 2017 and half a million less than the 'disastrous' 2019 poll. We won because the Tories imploded in 2024.

I used to be in favour. In principle, with the right legislation and safeguards I still could be. But once you've seen the statistics that disproportionately impact women, I doubt that safeguards will ever be enough. We already know how keen the world is to see women as the problem, that needs labelling/medicating/fixing. Whereas men get the sympathy, get to use MH as an excuse/justification for poor/abusive behaviour. The qualifying clause is odd, especially coming from the supreme governer and defender of the faith in what is still (offically, at least) a Christian nation. To illustrate my point, try imagining a grand imam saying, "Eid Mubarak to Muslims celebrating".

Terrible to use Christianity, on Easter no less, as a stick to beat the British people, just because they don’t believe in your actual religion of multiculturalism.

The @spectator consistently transcends at Easter. It is the only secular magazine which ‘does God’ for Holy Week better than many Christian publications. It beats with the spiritual rhythm of the Church calendar, and is all the more politically and culturally edifying for that.
