You’re wrong.
One carrier (Elizabeth) is in Rosyth undergoing serious maintenance, which is several months behind schedule. Many months before it could be deployed.
The other (PofW) is closer to operational but still undergoing work in Portsmouth. Decision taken not to deploy to Middle East (no escort ships to make up carrier fleet) but scheduled for North Atlantic/High Frontier NATO exercise, with NATO providing rest of carrier fleet.
What warships that are operational have I missed out?

@afneil @SimonHu86752739 I enjoy your analysis style usually but come on…for a start one Aircraft carrier IS on operational duty in the North Atlantic. The other in for maintenance. As for battleships…well we haven’t had one since Vanguard in 1960. Other vessels are operational.

Offshore patrol vessels are not warships.
The original plan to replace aging Type-23s with 13 fully-fledged Type-26s has been abandoned.
Instead 8 Type-26 and 5 cheaper, less powerful Type-31.
First Type-26 not til 2028 at earliest, Type-31s not til early in next decade.

Son just left the Navy after 6yrs. He went to sea once because there simply weren’t any ships. Pointless 6 yrs of his life.

The current state of the Royal Navy: 2 aircraft carriers — neither operational. 6 Type 45 destroyers (our most powerful warships) — one operational (in Cyprus). 7 Type 23 frigates (less powerful, much older) — three operational 5 Astute class nuke-powered subs — one operational (in Arabian Sea?). Surely those responsible for this appalling state of unreadiness (a national embarrassment if ever there was one)— political, civilian and military — should be fired/charged. Their incompetence has effectively left us without a navy. Quite an achievement for an ancient island nation.

Another shocking example of public money misuse:
Hertfordshire County Council is planning to spend £1.5 million to push 20 mph limits on over half of urban roads.
Instead of fixing potholes or investing in real safety measures, taxpayers are funding blanket speed zones.
Supporters argue it improves safety and encourages walking/cycling, but drivers are frustrated by congestion and slower commutes.
£1.5m could go much further improving actual infrastructure: repairing roads, upgrading crossings, or targeting high risk areas.

The Highway Code Rule 167 explicitly states that a driver must not overtake approaching or at a level crossing. The driver overtook in the prohibited zone, creating a risk of collision with other road users and trains. This conduct appears to contravene the Level Crossing Regulations and meets the definition of careless or potentially dangerous driving.

Guilt tripping drivers is the most craven & least effective road safety strategy. Mandate automated speed limiting tech in every vehicle now.

When politicians or the gutter press claim there is a “War on motorists” or that councils are “Anti car” this is why.
We need to reduce the number of fatalities caused by drivers.
These are not accidents, someone is at fault and it’s almost always the person driving.
