@afneil Utterly breathtaking. Dilapidated Royal Navy, sky high taxes & spending, onerous regulations, zero growth, sky high energy, nanny state elites with contempt for their own country. Where do Brits turn? You need a leader to pull you out of the nosedive.

The current state of the Royal Navy: 2 aircraft carriers — neither operational. 6 Type 45 destroyers (our most powerful warships) — one operational (in Cyprus). 7 Type 23 frigates (less powerful, much older) — three operational 5 Astute class nuke-powered subs — one operational (in Arabian Sea?). Surely those responsible for this appalling state of unreadiness (a national embarrassment if ever there was one)— political, civilian and military — should be fired/charged. Their incompetence has effectively left us without a navy. Quite an achievement for an ancient island nation.

@TheFP @FPJaySolomon Why did people join the Weather Underground and plant explosives across the country? They hate America and are psychologically gratified by aligning themselves with the enemies of America.

How does a liberal college student go from volunteering for Elizabeth Warren and climate causes… to chanting “Death to America” in Iran? That’s the question investigative reporter @FPJaySolomon set out to solve when he started looking into the disturbing story of Calla Walsh.

@ginamilan_ @PeterMallouk To be clear, all of the cities on this list are gaining in population. By contrast, many cities with extremely high rents are actually losing population. The reason rents are dropping in these listed cities is because supply is expanding.

It became clear during Russiagate that libs had undergone a descent into unreality and the cult around Mueller, only partially ironic, was a specific manifestation of that.

Fishback is a candidate for "Republicans" who voted for Mamdani, which is why he's polling in the single digits among actual Republican voters.

@GovPressOffice Did they spend over $100 million on these over years trying to build them? Or are they just old and no longer used?

@JohnHCochrane Rhetorically people so often focus on capital flight that they forget these taxes would be damaging even if people stood still to be sheared like sheep. I worry when people ignore that and only counter such proposals by saying “people will leave”.

This is a good bet. The same happened with the effort to impose global corporate taxes. The trend from states raising money to fund their spending, towards federal taxation with money sent back to the states, then spent with catastrophic inefficiency, is a natural mechanism.
Megan McArdle@asymmetricinfo

If we really see capital flight from CA/WA, tax competition is going to become a major progressive focus over the next 5-10 years. They will float proposals to prevent red states from poaching their tax cattle. I don’t know what these proposals will be, but I’m betting they’re coming.

It is plausible that SOME people think this. They may not be a majority even in Tehran, and even less in the entire country. A question: has conventional bombing EVER brought down a major regime, without troops invading? Hirsohima / Nagasaki were not "conventional", obvs.
Jon Levine@LevineJonathan

New York Times spoke to an engineer in Tehran who said many in the city were comfortable with U.S. bombings and that “They are upset if there is a night without bombing, and fear the war might end while the regime remains. You can see this clearly." nytimes.com/2026/03/10/wor…

@charliesmirkley Florida +40. I’m sure that wasn’t true a decade or two ago. It seems the FL GOP’s effort to court conservatives from the rest of the country is successful. Georgia should take note asap.

Idaho’s incoming movers lean +70 R vs. the national average. California is one of Idaho’s biggest sources of migrants. But the Californian moving to Idaho isn’t the median Californian. Generally, republicans move to R states and Democrats to D states.

@melfmaster Normal good means people spend more on it as income increases. Private k-12, more expensive private school, additional degrees & trade school, tutoring ect. Or larger more luxurious cars, 2nd cars (average is about 2). Can’t dismiss that consumption since much is for lifestyle

@Geverett111 on a car if your city only allows car based transportation. Consumption spending is flawed since most of the things mentioned above, like cars, fall under consumption despite being effectively necessary (and not a choice) for most Americans

@melfmaster @pietergaricano Health, education, rent and transport are all normal goods, so we should expect people to spend more on them as their income increases. It’s not a “wealth transfer” when people decide to buy more of something. Easiest way to see the US is richer is to look at consumption data.

@pietergaricano Hilarious to only include tax transfers and not wealth transfer to the rich through rent, transport, private healthcare and education etc. If we look at everything that's left after all transfers, aka wealth, European countries are far richer
