it's a kind of mental gymnastics to simultaneously believe that the leadership of the church are prophets, seers and revelators who administer the church according to constant revelation and that they are also constantly being hoodwinked by PR employees

@TheGermanicist Yeah, I'm extrapolating based on the previous quotes that that was implied, because I'm not assuming ill intent and I try to have charity. You have no idea whether either of them are breaking any commandments. You don't have enough information to conclude that.

@Dmtaylor125 Nowhere did he mention that her going to medical school is her calling from God. No where did he mention that she received revelation that he received revolution that that should be the case. He is breaking the Commandments by postponing having children and so is she.

"God doesn’t measure timelines[s]. He measures love, humility, and the way we show up for each other" and "our callings from God can look different, and that’s beautiful" seems to imply God was/is heavily involved in their decisions.

@Dmtaylor125 @GuyInco15542744 @Ch_JesusChrist He never mentioned that God let his wife at all. He simply says that he supported his wife. He never mentioned that God told them to do this.

@DrFrankTurek There's no such thing as "faith alone," as you can't have faith without works

IMPORTANT QUESTION: Is salvation by faith alone, or by faith plus works?

Are you a stove toucher? Someone who has to learn the hard way, who has to touch the hot stove to believe it burns? You’re not alone. Scripture is full of them: The Prodigal Son → Left home, wasted everything… → “When he came to himself” (Luke 15:17) — he finally saw clearly Alma the Younger → Rebelled, fought against God → “Racked with eternal torment” before crying out for mercy (Alma 36:12–18) Even Pharaoh → Saw miracle after miracle → “Hardened his heart” (Exodus 8–9) Some people learn by faith. Others learn by fire. The question isn’t if we’ll learn— it’s how much pain we’ll require first. Are you a stove toucher? 🔥

How do you know there is no justifiable cause? That's a huge assumption. Also, considering only the original post, there's not even enough information to assume there was an inversion of maternal and paternal roles! That's another huge assumption.

Brigham Young started encouraging women to go to medical school in 1873. The Church even provided financial support for the women to travel and study.

I'm not married myself so I'm not going to tell this couple how they should go about their marriage. That's not my place. I just think the reactions to this post has been needlessly harsh. I just hope they're happy, thriving, and trusting the Lord in the process.

“I grew up in Arizona, served a mission in Mexico, and went to college thinking I had a pretty clear path for my life. Then I met my now wife Victoria, and everything changed in the best way. “She always knew she wanted to be a doctor. Pediatric neurology isn’t an easy road, but it’s who she is, compassionate, steady, brilliant, and drawn to help kids and families through the hardest things life hands them. When she got into med school in California, we packed up and moved. “Stepping into her dream together was an easy choice. I wanted to support her the way she has always supported me. And honestly, watching her work and sacrifice and love people like she does has strengthened my faith more than anything else. “My path hasn’t been as clear. I’ve tried different directions, learned a lot, prayed a lot. Some days I still feel like I’m figuring it out. But I do know that God doesn’t measure timelines. He measures love, humility, and the way we show up for each other. “Supporting her doesn’t shrink my purpose—it expands it. Our callings from God can look different, and that’s beautiful. I’m building my future too, but I’m grateful that right now, part of my purpose is cheering for the person I love most as she steps into hers. “There’s not one 'right way' to build a family or a future. For us, this is ours. And it’s sacred.” — Nate

@GuyInco15542744 @Ch_JesusChrist Because it's highlighting how someone who faces challenges/doubts/struggles can humble himself and trust that God will lead him to what's best for him and his family.

The shifting and reframing of apologists never ends. The question isn’t “Can genetics absolutely disprove the Book of Mormon?” The question is, if a 600 BCE Israelite group became ancestors of American civilizations, should we detect Near Eastern ancestry? Nor does it matter that we don’t know what Nephite and Lamanite DNA look like. We don’t have DNA labeled “Viking” either but we absolutely can detect Scandinavian ancestry in medieval Britain. That’s not a straw man.
Scott Gordon@ScottAlanGordon

@stackerco I talked to a population geneticist about this. His comment was that genetics as it currently stands cannot prove or disprove The Book of Mormon. We have no idea what nephite and lamanite DNA looks like. The whole DNA argument is a straw man.

@dev_music21 Right! Plus like, even using the gift card on them means I'm *not* using it on myself, so I'm still losing out! Or maybe "making a sacrifice" is a better way to put that haha

@Dmtaylor125 They definitely should be!😂 Maybe because it's not their money they don't care. Women seem to be very entitled these days. If someone is offering to take you out to dinner it shouldn't matter how they pay or how nice the restaurant is. It's free food for heaven's sake! 🤣

Apparently asking a girl to Chili's for a first date because you have a gift card is "low effort" and warrants canceling the date and cutting off all communication, despite totally vibing over text the past few days.

@stackerco Does assuming I didn't understand the BoM or the genetics units of my biology classes (which, I'll grant you there's a lot I don't remember!), and then stating that assumption in an antagonistic way provide a way to further the discussion/debate?

@stackerco Yeah, see, labeling it as "lame" and "dishonest" is the lack of charity. If you're right, do think this type of response is going to encourage me to look into it more? Does it give me any information I can look at/consider further?

@WilliamMeservy @SamuelMelton5 Clearly reading or critical thinking isn’t something mormons are able to do. All you is deflect and ignore when you can easily find out for yourself. As a Christian who’s studied at length the LDS, they are not even CLOSE to being the same.

If I didn’t believe in separation of church and state, I’d argue the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints should be placed in charge of the government. What it accomplishes with little overhead and no sign of individual greed is incomparable to any other organization.
Furkan Gözükara@FurkanGozukara

Absolute insanity. An expert filmmaker exposes how the Mormon Church is hoarding a staggering 350 billion dollars and buying up massive amounts of American land while still demanding money from its followers. The religious corporate greed is terrifying.

@SamuelMelton5 @WilliamMeservy I believe in the Jesus that was born of the Virgin Mary, turned water to wine, called 12 apostles, walked on water, performed healings, suffered in Gethsemane, died on the cross at Golgatha, and was resurrected on the third day. Which one do you believe in?

@dev_music21 I mean, I'm almost certain that contributed to it. But like, why is that the deal breaker? What's going to happen when I pull out the gift card to pay and she sees it anyway? I thought women liked it when men were responsible with money? Lol I have so many questions!
