@DoBetterLaura Winter Park is my favorite stop! Though that may require waking up early from the West. The westbound trip was a blur for me tbh, I spent a lot of it napping.
We arrived in Denver, CO behind schedule, but not too late to grab ramen across the street from Union Station. We’ll be in Denver visiting family for two days, before hopping on the next leg of our journey to Chicago.
The conductor just announced we will have no service for 2 hrs as we travel through the Colorado Rockies. Or as he put it “Get ready to go back to 1995.” We’ve got a good screen free project to keep us busy.
@Matt_Flm No. The California Zephyr is a pretty unplugged experience. No WiFi, no entertainment systems. We downloaded some movies/shows on our personal devices before we left, but we’ve mostly been reading, playing games, napping, and talking.
@DoBetterLaura This trip (in reverse) was nowhere near as romantic as I had imagined. Like being stuck on an airplane for 4 days, except with more Mennonites.
@DoBetterLaura The part which I remember most from doing the trip in opposite direction: your kid will start to hate the kids food menu soon, which repeats over and over again for every single meal (the adult meals aren’t as repetitive).
@bikeshopgirlcom We’re stopping in Denver for two nights, but if we went straight through, it would take 4 days & 3 nights, with a transfer from the California Zephyr to the Lakeshore Limited in Chicago.
