And now I'm reading about wandering trees in Estonian folklore. Certain sites were considered sacred because that's where a tree decided to stop

The Iron Crown of Lombardy was made in the Middle Ages. Legend maintains its central band was beaten from a nail of the True Cross. It was used in the coronation of the first Holy Roman Emperor Charlemagne on Christmas day 800 and was worn again in 1805 by Napoleon.

When I graduated from Army Airborne school I called my father, a former master sergeant in the national guard. "Dad!" I said. "I got my wings!" My dad replied, "Son, only two things fall out of the sky. Birds..t and fools." Thanks, Dad.

Various #Roman vessels made of beautiful cobalt blue glass - their glassmaking really was a wonder, I love discovering them in museums - there are always new pieces to discover (& these blue ones are particularly lovely to me) #Archaeology #RomanArchaeology #AncientGlass

A beautiful #Roman glass bottle, in blue & green glass with gold band decoration. It was made about 2000 years ago, & was probably used by its lucky original owner to store perfume or cosmetics #Archaeology #AncientGlass

Moral conundrum during tabletop game: You are in a haunted mansion. You can’t leave and your friend is stuck in the next room with a tentacle monster. You can throw a dynamite into the next room that will potentially kill the monster but will definitely kill your friend. Your only other choice is to attack the monster head-on, putting you at much higher risk. What do you do?

'When Adam delved and Eve span, Who was then the gentleman?' John Ball, Colchester-born rebel priest and one of the leaders of the Peasants Revolt, was hung, drawn and quartered #OTD 1381 at St Albans in the presence of the King. He's become a symbol of resistance to injustice and oppression. A restored wall painting at Broughton, Cambridgeshire originally painted a few decades after Ball's death.
