Nope, not ornaments. My friend is going through the house where her grandma and aunt lived their whole lives and finding weird stuff. Apparently these are solid and very heavy; too heavy to hang on a tree. What are they

85 years ago, in the skies over Britain, young pilots stood against overwhelming odds. Their courage and sacrifice ensured our freedom and inspired Winston Churchill’s words: "Never in the field of human conflict was so much owed by so many to so few." As we approach Battle of Britain Day, we honour their bravery. ❤️🇬🇧

It’s Friday and you know what that means! 😏 It's time to guess this week’s #Mystery Object 🥳 Objects like this were once seen everywhere, but they've become less common in recent decades. If you think you know what it is, drop a guess in the comments below!

@greatwardaily Would the shelling of the German ship Pfalz in Port Phillip Bay in August 1914 also count as being ‘on Australian soil/water?’

#OTD: January 1, 1915 The only war-related incident on Australian soil occurs at the Battle of Broken Hill. Two Afghan camel drivers, who had pledged their allegiance to the Ottoman Empire, ambushed a train of picnic-goers heading to Silverton in New South Wales. Four civilians were killed and another seven were wounded. Following the arrival of the police to the ambush area, a 90-minute gun battle ensued with the two Afghans succumbing to gunfire.

How is the Christmas book pile shaping up, folks, or is there still some mystery to it? Image for some colour (and a decent one to add to your list; the calibre of the contributing authors is off the hook).

Outstanding intellectual firepower in this morning's panel discussion - "Who won the Cold War." Great insights about what winning is, the missed opportunity in the humiliation of Russia following the collapse of the Soviet Union, the battle of thoughts, and the fact that Western Democracies did not win the Cold War, the Soviet Union lost it. Immense insights. Thank you, Clare Birgin, David Horner, @DloweDavid, David Edwards, @RhysCrawley, Craig Stockings, @DefenceProf. Raised more questions than it answered and that is a really good thing. Great lessons from yesterday for today and tomorrow. Well done @MHHVic for organising the event. #intellectualedge #pme #jpme #strategy #history #milhistory
